Quick Colt 6920 questions...

After searching through the forums here the past few weeks I have pretty much decided to go with the Colt 6920 but I wanted to confirm a few things first...

When you remove the carry handle, is it attached with a rail type system on the top?

Also, this rifle is fully customizable from what I understand so am I right to assume that it will accept a quad rail accessory?

If so, will the quad rail match up flush with the pre-installed one on the top of the upper that I am assuming comes with it from the factory?

How difficult is it to install a quad rail later on down the line? Is this something that a regular person can do or do you have to take it to a smith?

Carry handles come off in 2 seconds. Just unscrew the 2 bolts. Most folks throw then in a parts drawer and replace them with an optic.

Hand guards pop off in 5 seconds. Just pull down the delta ring (that coupling at the part of the hand guards closest to you) and pop out the old plastic ones and insert any of a hundred styles of quad rails on the market. Most line up perfect but some can be goofy and not match up? Stick with the big names and they will line up.

Sounds good, thanks! I figured I knew the answers to these questions but wasn't 100%.

That carry handle is held on the top of the upper by a rail though right? From what I have seen, it looks like this is the case but can't quite tell if it comes from the factory like this or if people are just putting these on later.

I figured as much but it is kind of hard to tell what is what in photos online. Then I noticed that there seems to be several types of 6920s out there but from what I can gather, it looks like the only difference is the roll marks and nothing else.

Just looking for a good rifle that I can add things on to in the future and this seems to be the way to go.

If you want a quad rail that mounts flush you may like the 6940 better. Comes with a ff mono rail.

Only issue with the 6940 is that you're stuck with the rail it comes with. I had my option of 6920 or 6940 when I purchased a rifle for duty use.

I orginally wanted the 6940 due to the rail. Once I saw that I couldn't swap out the rail, I went with the 6920. I am glad I did as I've swapped out from OEM handguards to MOE handguards to DD EZ CAR to (now) Centurion Arms C4 carbine cutout.

I'm happy with the Centurion C4 but at least I have the option of changing rails.

Awesome. Thanks for all the replies. Yeah, I have ruled out the 6940 because of the rails not being removable and the initial price being a bit too much for what I want right now. It seems the 6920 is kind of the blank canvas of Colt M4s?

I am thinking my best move is to get the 6920 and after a while then start adding rails and other accessories once I figure out exactly what I want to put on it.

I ended up just getting moe handguards. They're only like $20 and work great. I have a light, handstop, and qd tapped on mine.

AR's are pretty much Legos for gun guys. Anything will bolt on the 6920 just like any other milspec AR. Hanguards can be from simple to hard. Simple is drop in like the DD Omega. Hard is everything else as it will require the front sight to be removed.
