Duty Guns
With over 8 years working as a Police Officer I wouldn't consider myself an old timer, however I'm now on my 3rd duty gun. What's your duty gun history? My history:
1. G17: 5 years
2. G35: 3 years
3. G22: 1 month
Thanks for replies.

Not that I'm THAT old, but my first duty weapon (prior department) was a S&W Model 10, 4" 38.Spl. I carried that for the first 12 years, then a S&W 5946 / 9mm when we switched to semi-auto's, which I carried for 8 years until I retired. On my current department, I was issued a Glock 23 for the first 8 years, then a Glock 22 which I've had for the last 3 years.

When I started, we could carry most anything. I carried a Colt 1911. Dabbled with a Sig P220. Finally got a Wilson Master grade built and carried it until about 13 years ago. Issued a Glock 35, carried it for 12 years, just got new Glock 22's.
I'm allowed to carry anything on duty that I want to as long as its the issued Glock 22. No complaints, its a perfectly good duty gun, but, back when we carried our own guns, cops had a little more personality. We had Govt models, browning High Powers, revolvers in .38-.44's. A few Smith autos and a smattering of those new fangled Sig Sauers.

Started out with an old department issued Smith & Wesson Model 67 Stainless Steel .38 Special revolver.
Went to Glock next and never looked back. First was a 22 and then a 23 when I went in the detective bureau. Just upgraded to a Generation 4 and have the small backstrap on it. It feels even better in my hand. Less recoil too.

Let's see:
Sig P228 - 3 years
Para LDA 7.45- 1 year
H&K USP 45 - 2 years
Glock 23 - 4 years
And I will be very shortly going to a Springfield Armory XD 45 Tactial, which I bought cheap. I haven't worked out with it too much, but I'm optimistic. I'll post up my thought when I've got some time with it on my hip.

Wow.....about 28 years on the job now and have worked a number of uniform and plain clothes investigative assignments. I went through the academy with a S&W 681 and switch part of the way through to a 686.
My first police job had a pretty liberal authorized duty pistol list. On the job I have carried:
S&W 686 (uniform)
S&W 469 (uniform) what was I thinking?
Colt Combat Commander in 9mm (uniform)
Colt LW Commander in .45 (uniform and plain clothes)
Colt Combat Government Model (uniform and SWAT)
S&W 4516 (plain clothes)
Colt Stainless Officers ACP (plain clothes)
Colt LW Officers ACP (plain clothes)
Browning Hi Power (plain clothes)
HK P7M8 (plain clothes)
HK P7M13 (uniform)
HK USP9 Full Size (uniform)
HK USP9 Compact (plain clothes)
HK USP45 Compact (plain clothes)
Glock 17 (uniform, SWAT and plain clothes)
Glock 19 (plain clothes)
Glock 23 (plain clothes)
Glock 26 (plain clothes)
Glock 22 (SWAT)
Wilson CQB w/Rail (uniform)
On my current job:
Glock 22.....the only authorized pistol
