As I go through the process of deciding exactly what my preferences are for my ar, I may buy components to use now that would eventually find their way on a possible build later or on this sport permanently or as specs for a factory built ar.
What started as a simple question got diverted.

For around 80 bucks an A2 stock kit may be a nice option for you to keep in your parts cabinet. The ones I had were rock solid and felt great, and gave a nice cheek weld (for me). I initially wanted the A2 for my AR due to hunting but then it just grew on me. You may end up liking it more than you think, and like you said- if you end up changing it out then you always have an extra stock kit and that's certainly not a bad thing.

What about you and the rest? Aren't you all in the threads as well? What does that make you? An uncommon link?

Back on topic (hopefully).
If accuracy (i.e. proper cheek weld/LOP.etc.) is the #1 goal, a fixed unit will surpass 99% of anything out there.
If you require 4 inches "less" due to confied space or to adjust for a vest, the telescoping (whatever brand you prefer) is the ONLY way to go.
To each his own...find what works for YOU.

I like my UBR as well. Good choice, very solid, but slightly heavier than I like. They make a striker plate for it that would be awesome for buttstroking people.

The a2 stock is too long for most people, so unless you're a pretty big guy you probably will not like it. If you want one all the parts will come in the parts kit. You will need: 1-receiver extension/buffer tube-a1 and a2 stocks use the same buffer tube 2-spacer for buffer tube 3-rifle buffer 4-Spring 5-Screw 6-stock You would probably be happier with a a1 length stock. They are similar but shorter. Basically the same as above but the stock is shorter, you don't use the spacer and the screw is shorter. Cavarms is probably the easiest source for an a1, you can also find surplus a1 stocks. Vltor sells a a1 length stock but it is expensive. Magpul is going to come out with a stock that is a little longer than a1 later this summer. The Sully Stock is shorter than an a1 and solid plastic. I think this is the best fixed stock for most people. it is more expensive than a cavarms a1 The cavarms sometimes comes with a pretty flimsy buttplate. You might want to consider getting the stock from fulton armory, I think that comes with a regular usgi stock.
