Federal 9BPLE 115 Gr. +P+

I came across this video, and It's definitely making me rethink my position on my current preferred weight, the 147 Gr.

This round, in this particular test, displayed some wicked damage. I might have to look into carrying this round, however S&W does not recommend the use of +P+ ammo in It's pistols, including my S&W 5903, even though several law enforcement departments have used the Federal 9BPLE 115 Gr. +P+ round in the S&W 5903 with no problems.

What do you guy's think about this round?

The Fed 9BPLE and it's Winchester sister load were designed specifically for the Illinois State Police. It has been putting down BG's for nearly 30 years now. It has also been used for many years with the DeKalb SO in GA.

I've been using the 9BPLE for over 15 years and I have no plans on changing my carry ammo anytime soon.

Despite what the Flackler Fanboys say, the 9BPLE is a street proven man stopper.

DeKalb County P.D. used this up until around 2008 or so then switched to Winchester Ranger T 124 +p and then to Speer GD 124 +p before transitioning to .40's...in 2006 DKPD had 16 OIS and 15 of them were fatalities (unfortunately one made it) using 9BPLE...

It's good stuff and can be had for $17 if you get lucky. Ordinarily the old Hi-Shok ammo has fallen out of favor but the 9BPLE is the exception.

It's fun to shoot too. Kind of like a mini .357 Sig in terms of noise and blast. And I haven't shot a lot of it but for some reason when I do I seem to be scarily accurate with it.

I'll still carry 124+P Gold Dots but I would be ok with carrying 9BPLE.

Solid load, I have a nice stash of it and wouldn't hesitate to use it in a fight.

Nice price, I think I'm sold on the Federal 9BPLE. Where can you get this for $17.00 dollars a box?

One of my local gun stores has these for $25.00 dollars per box, I don't think that's a bad price for what I'm getting, but I always want to find multiple stores that carry my ammo.

Thanks

Policehq.com sells it for $19 a box. They just had a 10% off sale of all ammo a week or so ago. Spend $129 and get free shipping.

They will tack in a $0.60 per box ammo shipping "surcharge".

A big fan of this round. Cheap enough to practice with quite a bit. This round is in my G19 right now.

Considering the standard pressure 9BP for whichever pocket 9 I wind up owning.

9BPLE "9mm Border Patrol Law Enforcement" old tech but it works the first 10 shootings where one shot stops with the Border Patrol, Secret Service praised this round. But like anything else .40 cal came out and folks jumped on it oh well.

Dekald Co PD was so sucessful with this round 13 shootings 12 killings why did they go to a .40cal?

Because they wanted to be like everybody else thats why.

And they always talk about a budget damn 9mm is less than .40 isn't it?

Now there are only two PD's in the Atlanta Metro area still carry 9mm.

SGAmmo.com usually has it for cheap. Last I looked, unfortunately, they only were offering it in 1000 round lots. Still good price if you want 1000. I got it per box a few months ago. Maybe he'll do it again, soon.

If enough people ask ....

It may be old school but many knowledgeable shooters regard the 9BPLE as still one of the top 9mm JHP self-defense rounds based upon its street record of stopping felons.

I was also considering this round until I watched tnoutdoors' test. Completely failed to expand. End of story for me.

Gwinnett is a pretty big one, though, and seems to be happy with their selection of RA9T

I agree. I still have a decent stash of the Winchester 115 +P+ that I got from Hotpig. It is in my 1999 G26 right now.

I know right? Nevermind it's extensive record in real world shootings.

I'm kind of surprised, given the size of the hollowpoint opening (small by most standards) and the considerably less than advertised velocity that this bullet performs as well as it did in that test.

I'd wager that a 125gr bullet of Sierra-like build and a 1250fps+ velocity would be optimal in 9mm. Give a little more penetration while still providing the explosive results you see with the 9BPLE. Wonder what Cor Bon's 125gr 9mm load yields as far as velocity is concerned?

That's why I like the 125gr cup-and-core bullet in 357Sig at 1400fps+!

I was surprised to see that it didn't clog up given the small hollow point opening.

IMHO that test shows amazing results. The cavity it created looked like some of the better .357 sig tests that TNOutdoors has done. Nice little fragments along the "wound."

I agree, that test really cemented this round to me, I think he was shocked as well

Did a little Googling and it appears the Cor Bon 125gr Sierra-like JHP does in the low 1200's like the 9BPLE does. So a slightly heavier bullet with a cup-and-core design doing the same approximate velocity.

I'll have to get some and chrono them myself. If indeed they do low 1200's it may become a carry round for me.
