2nd Barrel for Remington 870?

Ok, so I have this shotgun, a Remington 870, left hand model:

Click the image to open in full size.

It has that long barrel on it. I was thinking of buying another barrel for a gunsmith to cut down to the legal minimum, to make it less unwieldy for home defense.

Anyone know where I might get a 2nd barrel, and what the minimum length would be? Cost?

THx.

Brother inlaw did the same thing you are looking to do. Barrel was around 120 and cut down and finish cost 30 at a local gun smith. as for the length it is up to your local laws. Here in Louisiana we cut em down to 18.25".

cut it yourself. min is 18".
my meathod: tape liberally the area to be cut. black electricians tape works great. get a couple small hose clamps to cut between, keep you goung nice and straight. the tape will prevent scratching from the clamps. use a hacksaw. if you cant rorrow a bandsaw of course. cut the vent last. finish with a file.
but the ideal location with the vent rib is at the forward, and flush with , idk what you call it, support for the vent. you will find that will be 19.25" iirc

Before you Bubba a costly barrel go to www.roseactionsports.com and contact Steve Kelly and see what he charges. He will cut it to legal length and thread it for remchoke and for the front bead.

If you go to www.aiptactical.com and click on the lefthand tactical model you can see that exact left hand barrel. I send them to Steve and know they are going to be done right.

You should read the post before commenting there guys. He has a left hand 870. They don't make 18" barrels for the left hand 870. They used to make a 20" with rifle sight but ended that years ago. They only make on left hand 870 barrel and that is the one he has, 28" VT RC.

I just did the same thing. I purchased a LH barrel on ebay for $125 and took it to a local gunsmith. $40 latter I had a short (18.5") LH 870
