I originally wanted a 302, but simply couldn't find one for a comparable price when I was ready to get one, so a 301 it was. I'm not too torn up about it anymore

I love my Minimalist and it's recently acquired big brother, the SPEW (stupid damn name...).

Also, the higher end Minimalists are just awesome, but just a bit much for what they are. I'll still probably end up with one someday, they're about the same price as the Benchmades I've been buying recently. I like the little Baby Bears too.

I had been working with the Benchmade Griptilian, but I'd been eyeballing this thing for a while.

I finally got one at a good price, so I made the move. It's still getting broken in, but I'm loving it. It really fits my hand well and locks up tight. Those scales are G10. I love Benchmades

Kershaw Clash

I have several and always have one on me.

It's a good knife, and they're cheap so if one gets messed up/lost, it's no big deal

First time I seen Gibbs use one on NCIS I fell in love with it. Like you I could not find one priced like the 301

I have one of those, too, identical to yours. Superlative piece of cutlery, using exemplary steel... even the handle finish is holding up nicely after 6 years of steady use.

Started a new job, this is my daily carry knife as a result. Emerson CQCBT-7, non-serrated, non-wave, black ti finish.

Only thing I don't like about it is the pocket clip. Way too big and ugly for such an elegant blade.

They can be replaced. I've got a few Emerson made satin clips that dress it up. One has a skull and crossbones... I can post up pictures if your interested.

I had that one in black. It's a bit to narrow for my hand so I gave it to my son.

I have no problem with the logo on the BC. I just hate seeing it on Toyota Camrys.

Don't like it that much more. The more I look at it, the more I like it. It's all your fault for posting it again.

Probably my least favorite Benchmade ever. Between the uncomfortable handle and the ghey bone collector crap there was not much to like. The handle is also huge compared to the blade.

Kershaw Model 1670 Spring assisted tanto point folder. Available from your local Wally Mart for around $60 or so. It sits in my back pocket every day, and on my nightstand with a flashlight at night.

Being an American. My greatest blessing.

Typically, a straight edge (or Wharncliffe) design is primarily for long, straight type cutting tasks. Think of planing wood, or beard shaving, that kind of thing... I mentioned carrying a tanto-style blade earlier for work, its handy for cutting straps and boxes, stripping wires, etc., along with being a good scraping tool.

That said, straight edged knives that have a pronounced taper like you saw in the pic you posted are better at straight penetration (read: stabbing), while being less than ideal for slashing-type maneuvers. It'll work, but not as well as a knife with a belly or rounded profile.

Short answer: it's just a trend in cutlery right now, and I'm liking it. It's also a preference by individuals, too.
