Hello all,
I have a huge cat problem. Our good friends next door are cat fanatics. They actually put out bowls of food and water, so now all the neighborhood cats converge on our house all day and night. We talked to them gently about this as we are getting lots of cats spraying our front porch and back fence, pooping in our garden, fighting in our alley, bringing fleas, etc and making life miserable for my wife who is allergic to cats. But our neighbors are elderly and absolutely love feeding all the neighborhood cats.....its their favorite hobby. We get along great with them and don't want to stop this fun for them....just stop the cats from pooping/spraying all over our property, bringing fleas, having shockingly loud cat fights in our yards and alley, and allow my allergic wife some peace.
Any ideas on some effective cat repellents? I'll try anything at this point. I've googled this and found lots of options with completely conflicting reviews (Most of which I know are submitted by marketing companies and/or competing marketing companies).

forgot to add that we can't used a motion activated sprinkler on the front porch as it would spray the FedEx/Brown guy everytime they delivered, or in the alley as it would spray every car and kid on a bike. :-)

Plastic sheeting will prevent them from spraying on things, as they hate to get urine on their feet. That's the best I can add

I don't know of any cat repellant that actually works except good sized dogs.

Dude those elderly people apparently dont give a **** about your wifes allergies or the fleas and the cats pissing on your porch and all. They care more about the cats. How else are the cats going to leave. They are not. screw that I know u said not to use antifreeze but I sure as hell wouldnt put up with all that pissing and fleas and wifes allergies. Apparently u live in a neighborhood so I guess the 10/22 with some CB Longs is out of the question.

Go next door every night and take the food and water away and dispose of it.

Put your sprinkler on a timer.

Mothballs all around the house and in the garden.

Tell them you saw coyotes on the next street and they love to eat little kitty cats and small dogs.

Tell them to stop or you'll notify animal control. Quit the good guy thing if it affects you and your wife.

If the cats are "spraying" then they are more than likely strays and are multiplying like cats. Pretty soon they will be a psychotic nightmare from hell.

Call animal control, or start taking them out yourself. This is not something you need to tell your neighbors about. Just do it.

Here, we have idiot PETA freaks that are inviting raccoons into their HOMES to feed them... and now they are even feeding the coyotes that just arrived about 2 years ago. The coyotes are now out of control and are eating all the cats and dogs they can get their teeth into... and they are attacking humans... and animal control refuses to do anything about them. So, a bunch of people here decided to hire the USDA to take out just the "more aggressive ones"... rather than "as many as they can". Can you say; "Conflict of interest"?

As someone who has been dealing with a similar problem for 3 years now, I can tell you the mistake you are making is the same one I made...you are trying to be nice. Don't be nice.

I have trapped my neighbor's stray/feral cats and turned them into animal control. I have used mothballs and other commercial repellants. I have complained to the town and also to the health department. None of it made a dent. All it did was make the cat feeders angry and unpredictable. The police would do nothing. Every time the authorities came, the feeder would tell them they weren't his cats, even though they were eating and drinking out of huge bowls right in his yard. Don't kid yourself, this problem will become like a second full time job.

You need to take care of these animals quickly and discreetly ala wk9k's post. There is no other solution. The longer you let the problem continue the bigger it will get.

My neighbor was eventually taken to court for threatening another neighbor who was also trapping and he was ordered to get rid of most of the cats. There are still 3 or 4 hanging around. These are not house/barn cats. They are wild. This comes from all of the breeding going on. You'll see this eventaully I am sure.

This issue will take over your life. Trust me. Do what ever it takes to solve it yesterday.

Truth-be-told, personally, I've found that the "nice" route is a waste of time.
The township will find you a nuisance after the second time you call them and, I wonder if you could be cited for harrassment in the current climate.

How you chose to dispose'uv'em is your call.
Locally, when I get one in a trap the township will come down and take it away. If somebody wants that particular cat back, they have to go down to the pound and pay.

These threads never last long. Live trap them, and transport them to the animal control shelter. Do NOT take them out into the country and release them. Too much of that going on already.

I live in country, if i had that issue here after talking with the guy i have a wide variety of callibers to choose from. Sounds like you my friend need a walther p22 with suppressor. But really I'd be more firm and bringing authorities in on the issue.

Live trap.

Be sure to wash the trap thoroughly before setting it back out. Five minutes in a garbage can full of soapy water ought to do the trick.

Remove the cat and reset the trap.
