Shotgun pistol grips...Hogue vs. Knoxx

I bought a Hogue Tamer for my AOW but i see that Knoxx has one that also absorbs recoil. Anyone try either/both? Which dampens recoil more and is better?

Thanks

I didn't think much of my knoxx... I recently switched to a birds head grip. I like it vastly better . For what this is worth however it is only for Mossberg 500 platforms and I don't know what your aow is

I've always wanted a bird's head. But for my AOW it would screw things up a bit given you feed it by cranking the grip and vfg back and forth. Maybe for another one of my Mossies though. I know I saw a Mossberg bird's head somewhere in the past.

Thanks for the info.

I wish I could comment on this but I have not tried my Knoxx Spec Ops folder yet

In doing my research I found out that they work VERY well. I am looking forward to trying it someday.

I've seen bad reviews of the shoulder versions. Several have shared that it directs the recoil upwards somehow and punches your face instead of your shoulder.

I didn't think so... But then again, the shoulder stock on that unit is just really for emergencies I would think being that it's coated wire so to speak...

Mine is now in a box after I got the birds head style

Another vote for the Speed Feed birds head grip - most ergonomic. I have owned the Knoxx and sold it in favor of the birds head.

With that said, I switched back to a regular stock as the pistol grip just really isnt all that practical...

Here was my 870 Tac with the grip - clean and simple:

I bought a Mossberg Maverick 88 in 1994 and after shooting it a few times it sat on the shelf until 2010 because a 12 gauge pistol grip is just not that controllable for my taste. My strong hand took some punishment, as well.

I bought a Knoxx Reduced Recoil Adjustable stock and I can shoot the gun all day long without ever getting bruised.

I have no experience with the Hogue grip, but I really like the Knoxx recoil absorbing pistol grip on my 870.

Speedfeed still makes the birds head grip for the 870 and shockwave technologies makes it for the 500.

I find these grips work well for absorbing the recoil than the more vertical grips.

I have one and install it occasionally to shorten my shotgun for when we go camping. I carry a pistol but I'd rather use the shotgun if I had the choice. I suppose one can leave it on for a house gun.

I tried a folder an over folder one time, not sure what brand it was but it was terrible! It worked as intended, but felt like I was getting punched in the face every time I fired it. And that was light birdshot.

Again, I do plan to pick up a bird's head for my Mossy if I can find the link to the place that sells them.

However, for my AOW, a vertical foregrip and horizontal pistol grip would feel somewhat odd. Plus instead of a fluid motion, cycling would be awkward. This is why I'm debating whether to keep my tamer or look at a knoxx. BOTH absorb recoil....I'm just wondering which is better. Sounds like no one has tried the tamer.

Thanks

Like I said, I sold my knoxx, but can't imagine the Hogue to be better. The Knoxx really was outstanding at absorbing recoil - it has a spring dampening system in the handle and it works.

If the Knoxx was so great at absorbing recoil....why get rid of it? Is the different angle of the bird's head grip significantly better at re-directing the recoil?

As I said, at this point, I'd like to stick with vertical pistol grips, for functional and aesthetic purposes. But if there is THAT much different, certainly I can compromise.

Thanks

Well I found a pic of the birds head setup and people talking about it here...

http://www.northwestfirearms.com/rif...gun-legal.html

I think I'll buy one and test it against the Hogue and use which ever feels better.

Thanks!

My prediction is that you love the birds head vs the hogue, but only time will tell. Report back your findings please.
