My M4 has a Streamlight TLR-1s on it that I love. I see that lots of you guys have them and like them just like I do. I need to get at least one more to put on my main HD pistol! They are awesome, especially the strobe IMO!! 160 lumens is outrageously bright!

I use my carry gun and it sleeps on the night stand.

Whatever is closest within reach. My nightstand is more of an armoire, G27 holstered wedged in a drawer for easy reach, S&W 65 .357mag inside the cabinet, or NAA mini master .22mag on top. My other half has his G27 with crimson trace within arms reach and an NAA Black Widow in .17hmr both in arms reach.
Any of these would provide time to get to the gun cabinet where we could choose from a foray of long guns, including but not limited to: Windham Weaponry MPC AR15, Tactical Mossberg 500 12ga red dot equipped, Mosin Nagant, Savage 93r17hvss .17hmr, Winchester model 70 7mm WSM, Marlin 60SB etc etc. I'd really like to purchase a weapon mount for my O-light, 600 lumens is enough to blind an intruder, at least long enough for a good muzzle thump, or to take a shot if they are persistent.

You might consider the Streamlight TLR2 laser/light.
In low light/darkness the laser gives you the ability to EASILY place your shots EXACTLY, QUICKLY where you want them even in total darkness, while shooting from the hip.
Point shooting gives you a unobstructed view of the threat area without having a gun and your arms semi blocking your view.
For instance. 25 yards from the hip shooting fast.

Through the day I carry a G36. At my desk I keep a G21 with a TLR-1 light on it. Off the bedroom in the walk in I keep a 870 with light. At night the 36 rests on the night stand. Our four dogs are the alarm system as well as first defense. If you get in and kill the dogs, god help you because the wife will rip you apart with her hands, she loves the dogs. After she stops I will shoot you in the head to put you out of your pain.

I carry my g36 at all times. It sits on my night stand at night. We have a schnauzer and a boxer that are more then adequate alarms for anyone near the house. Our bedroom has a funky turn to get into so the wife and I will hold down in their and wait for the police to arrive. Their local hangout is about two miles from our home.

Two Great Pyranies in the front pasture, ADT alarm system, three barking terriers in the house, Pump shotgun , cruiser ready, hanging over the door inside the first closet by the garage entrance, .357 in the kitchen, 9mm in the living room, variety of guns in the bedroom, multiple shotguns on second floor. Varmint rifles at the ready for the four legged intruders in the yard.

Wow compared to some on here I'm very under prepared. For me my carry gun is a 36 walking around the house I'll have either it on my hip, or my snubby in a pocket. At night the 36 gets placed on the night stand next to a d cell mag light.
As mentioned in a previous thread. If its my weekend with the kiddo, I'll meet you at the hallway entrance that way my kid is behind my line of fire. If he's not there I'll bugger down in my room and stop anything that opens the door.

God help anyone invading my home.
You're asking what I have and where I keep it? Well, most guns are in various safes. There are other weapons of opportunity which can and will cause major trauma, injury, and even death. Definitely not limited to (loud) firearms...

I keep a XD45tac jobber with a steam light attached as a bedside gun. Usually have my rem 870 or Winchester 1300 very close with a AR15 equally as close. I my local gang banger wannabe/dopers are partying, I'll have my G-23 on me.

I typically use whichever pistol or revolver I've been using for retirement CCW on any given day or night. I don't have dedicated "Home Defense" weapons.
Sometimes if I've been carrying a J-frame that doesn't have a front night sight, I may take one of my pistols equipped with night sights out of the safe. If I've been carrying one of my M&P 340's (XS front night sights), I'll often leave it out.
I have some assorted hand-held lights available, but not for mounting to my weapons. That's just my preference.
As long as my grand daughter isn't staying overnight, it'll usually be within a couple steps of my bed/sleeping mat. If something were to happen which I felt required getting a rifle or shotgun out of the safe, a safe is located in the room where I sleep.
I don't leave unsupervised firearms laying around my house. I prefer to deny any potential unauthorized persons access to them.
I know a fellow who had a troubled neighbor enter his house without permission, and who then stole a handgun left available for easy access by the owner. He was on his way to murder some family members when he was stopped and disarmed after a fight.
I can think of other firearms that have been stolen from owners, from places where they thought they were "hidden". I know of some cops who had issued weapons stolen under similar circumstances.
Responsibility is a many layered thing for gun owners.

This is my first line of defense:
Attachment 225909
If you can make it past him I have a rather large assortment of firearms that I will be quite happy to defend my family and home with. I won't say what they are, nor where I keep them, but you may rest assured that at least one is with a couple seconds of me at all times.

I have a Ruger Blackhawk 357 as my main "go to" home defense weapon, meaning it is always there and never meant to leave that spot. It is in my bedroom in a very inconspicuous spot, but very accessible as well. The idea behind that is that if someone breaks in here while I am not here, the chance of them finding the gun is lowered because it is not somewhere one would typically look for valuables. At least I hope not. I live in an urban apartment
I also carry a G26 and when I am home, it goes in the same spot as the Ruger, and honestly if I were confronted with a threat at night, I'd grab the G26 before the Ruger. Full G17 mag on the nightstand also. I am never outside of a 10 ft. range of that gun.
The Ruger is there for my wife when I am not here, it's simple, and very effective. She's not a gun person and has been reluctant to familiarize herself with the Glock, so I feel safer leaving a revolver for her to use God Forbid. She's terrified of guns so the idea of asking her to get a CHL isn't even an option. At this point in my life I am home about 90% of the time, but just a year ago, it was the other way around, gone 90% of the time.
Since I carry a G26, and if I walked in my house and saw thug or two, I think I could deal with it pretty quickly. Hope so anyway. I'm no tactical expert but have taken a few classes and practice as often as possible. We have a lady that cleans 2 times a month and she brings her kids over every time. Those days the guns go in the safe. Mossberg 500 in the trunk of the car, and a spare G26 mag behind the passenger seat.

My G19 is always on me, unless I'm asleep; then it's next to my bed on the nightstand. My wife has a RUger .357 on her nightstand. After that, in a nearby safe is multiple long arms that will allow us to stand off invaders in our Bedroom
House has an alarm system, windows that people can't fit through, and three loud dogs.

Yep, combo of carry with ready access to (locked) AR and semi 12g. Car safe - gun out when occupied. My car is hard to steal as well - between me and the factory.
No available weapon except those under control of me or my wife.

Just like that.. Simple and most importantly proficient.
Also, ADT alarm and two dogs which as guard dogs are as scary as a senior gerbil. A pacifist senior gerbil rather. Too many kids around for them to develop any instinct other than eat and play.

I just purchased my first home and we have finally settled in. My back yard has a tall lockable wooden fence with beware of dog signs on it (my dog is a little malti-poo but the neighbors dont know that, I could have cujo for all they know)
Motion detection lights that brighten up the entire big back yard. The same motion lights on my garage in the front of the house as well as motion lights on the front porch.
My back door has reinforced steel in the frame. Currently looking for a way to reinforce front doors with side windows. A nice alarm system, a barking dog in the house that is very alert helps me sleep better.
My G22 is with me all the time. At night it is next to me in the night stand a arms length away.
