TULAmmo .357 Magnum = Weak?

I've shot TULA steel cased ammo for range use as it's cheap. It is also fairly "zippy" as the European loads tend to be. Today I shot some TULA .357 and some Remington .38 spl out of a Ruger revolver and could almost not detect one from the other. I mixed the 6 rds alternately and really couldn't tell when the regular .38 fired and when the TULA .357 fired. Anyone else ever notice this? The TULA 9mm shot fine and was "zippy" as always outta my G26.

I haven't found any of the .357 stuff locally yet, but it'll be interesting to see how it works.

I'm suprised Tula didn't come out with a 38Spl load first. Maybe they thought that a lower pressure, lower velocity and lower recoil 357 load would be the best choice for a first revolver load.

Their 45acp load is on the light side and a pleasure to plink with.

I shoot their .357 and find it slightly more zippy than WWB .38, but not incredibly hot like a self defense round. My .02

My first trip to the .357 world was with a friend's Ruger 6-shot revolver (the one referenced in my above post) with 7" barrel. First pull of the trigger and a flame (!) shot outta the barrel about 6" and the recoil literally startled me. I was hooked! I used Fiocchi .357 this trip. After 30 rds my hand was hurting and bruised for 2 days!

So I bought a Taurus 5-shot 2" SS snubby revolver for myself as a BUG and for use in the van. Shot some other stuff and it all performed well. BIG difference between the .357 and the .38 spl. And I was happy.

This recent trip with the TULA experience was disappointing. I need to go shoot some in MY snubby and see if it performs better than it did with the Ruger.

I'm really of the opinion that underpowered magnum rounds should be labeled as such. If you want to make a light, low recoil round in a magnum cartridge that's fine, but don't skimp on materials and powder and try to convince folks it's a real magnum load. It would be nice if a round's powder charge and chamber pressure were just on the box as plainly as the bullet weight.

Wouldn't the velocity suffice?

No not really. A lot of the muzzle velocities advertised aren't very realistic and often are based on ridiculously oversized test barrels, and play the apples to oranges game versus hotter loads out of shorter barrels to appear more potent than they really are. Rather they could just be honest about how much powder is in the case
