Buying on line ammo

Hello, How do the on line ammo folks sell anything ?
The prices are ok but when you add in the ship cost you can buy the same thing at your LGS for less ? Am I missing something ?

Thank's,

It is cheaper to buy on line unless you are only buying a box or two of target ammo. to me more than price is the selection.

Defensive ammo is a real saver even if you buy one box. LGS you might find a 20 round box of Gold Dot as a example for 20.00. A 50 round box may only cost 25.00 on the net. Even with shipping it is a better deal.

LGS mostly have a very limited selection of brands and bullet weights. You will find stuff on the net that you will never find in your life time at LGS.

Thank's hotpig, Down here in Fl. in the Daytona Bch area was just relocated from Port Orange Fl. to Daytona Bch. a LGS . Called Fl. Gun EXCHANGE. This is not your regular "GUN SHOP" I haven't priced their ammo yet but will do soon. You can check them out www.flgun.com They have a shop that is around 10/15K SF.
I bet you can buy from them only because the amount of sales they do and save a buck !

KEEP YOU POWDER DRY!

My last buy was for 2,000 rounds of 9mm. I paid $26 for shipping. I would have paid $40 in sales tax where I live.

10mm SD ammo was 36 for 20 rounds at store yesterday, 15 ish online. Since 22lr and SD are the only thing I buy those are the only prices I really look at. 22lr doesnt seem worth buying online , when I order SD it is for 5 6 calibers and several boxes of each always cheaper for me to get online.

Welcome to online purchasing. Remember they are in business and have to make money to be successful at it. In all of life there are trade offs. This is one with its balancing of tax savings vs shipping. Both are expenses of doing business.

That being said Palmetto State Armory has decent prices and NO shipping charges for the summer. Just bought some from them. http://palmettostatearmory.com/

I can buy Speer Lawman 9mm for $10.95 or so online. I can't even find that at my LGS, let alone for that price. Throw in sales tax and you only have to order 500 rounds online for it to be very cost effective (not to mention my time and gas running around unless I just happen to be at the LGS and they have exactly what I want anyway - which is never).

I will order JHPs in small quantities when I need to, again simply because I can't find what I want locally and is not worth running all over for.

SGAMMO.COM is my favorite. You can get good deals on BULK. Single boxes, not so much as stated above. I bought 1000 rds. of Sellier & Bellot European 9mm ammo for about $197. Add shipping, no tax and it beats the pants off of local sources!!! Plus they put some stuff on sale at times for even less. Online for bulk. Hands down the best, IMO. And generally arrives in 3 business days.

Add some single boxes of other stuff since it will hardly matter with the shipping cost and you can buy some variety with your bulk ... CHEAP and the UPS man brings it to your door! What's not to like?

I buy all SD/high end ammo online.
Box of 20 GD JHP at LGS is ~$23-25 + sales tax. Online your looking $32-$39 for 50 Round box.
Shipping becomes insignificant very quickly.

I usually can't find what I want to carry for SD at the LGS. I only found two fifty round boxes of GDHP 124+P in any shop within twenty miles of me. As mentioned before prices online are often cheaper even with shipping. SGAMMO has the GDHP's for $25.50 right now.I ordered two boxes to keep my stock up. Speer Lawman TMJ at my LGS was listed at $16.00 a box of fifty. SGAMMO has them for around $11.00 a box. WHo buys one box of fifty at a time? If I order ten boxes at the LGS it runs around $170.00. If i order from SGAMMO it works out to $122.00 with shipping.

All about looking around, I check about 10 20 places before I order anything. Sometimes best price is not best deal, see how much it is going to cost to actually get it shipping in all, remeber finding a great deal at one place untill they wanted 60 for shipping on 200 rounds.

Remember shipping is based on weight from their address to yours. If you live on the east coast and buy 45 ammo from a west coast dealer it is going to cost more shipping than buying from a east coast place.

If you have the ammo delivered to your home it will cost several dollars more than having it delivered to a business address. If you live in a rural area UPS has several more add on fees for that delivery to. I'm often surprised by the shipping costs.

To the OP, as was mentioned above, the cost of shipping from online vendors versus the costs of sales tax from local gun shops is where the difference lies. Especially when you buy in bulk. I too have made purchases from SGAMMO where I bought 10 cases of 7.62x54 on two separate occasions. The costs of shipping was very cheap overall versus the individual costs of sales tax per case. In bulk is where you see the difference.

We have a few large sporting goods stores up here however they are a bit of a drive from my house.
http://www.finfeatherfuroutfitters.com/

They usually do have a pretty good selection of ammo to choose from however the only way it is worth while for me to save money is to have a grocery list of items, than make the drive there. even then I have found that at times, the only thing I am saving is time, you buy it you have it now.

However If I am only going to buy one or two items, it is cheaper for me to buy on-line.
