Gotta agree with the cowboy. In my experience, Gen 3's are the best. Not sure on the actual production years. But look for one with the Black barrel and not the Grey barrel. ...although my Gray barrel model 17 has been perfect.

I've owned several 19s and the two Gen 2s I have left are the best of the bunch (1989 and 1990). I had a Gen 3 that was flawless as well I just had to make room in the safe.

My Gen 2s will never see hands other than mine until I leave this existence.

I don't think anyone knows the exact date when Gen 3's started slipping. Like the other guy said, maybe 2009.

I know I am not interested in purchasing any Glock pistol manufactured after 2006,but that's just me. I do carry a list of Glock serial number prefixes with me,always looking for a deal on another Glock the prefix KND is where I stop at Period. SJ 40

Look for any Glock with a 3 digit L letter serial or before.
It should have a black barrel and a nice deep black finish on the slide.
thats your clue. i believe that makes it 2007 ish?

Really, I would love them to bring back the Gen 1. That 25th anniv 17 should have the texture on my 17. I think a lot of people would love it.

My 19 is an LZT 2008 and has been unGodly flawless. If my gun is any indication, I'd say any glock around that number is GTG.

that would be great!!! the glock 40 could be a retro version (reintroduction) of the glock 17. slogan could be: "when perfection mattered."

Mine, I believe is an early gen 3 with the finger grooves but with only one pin above the triger. I bought it in the late 90's and from the first time I opened the tappeware, I knew this was a high quality weapon. Ramp was polished to a mirror finish and protected by a smooth tenifer finish. All other parts fitted to very closed tolerances, like a japanese engine, and no machine mark or metal residue anywhere. This gun, even today looks like the day I bought it. Exept for a scratch on the rail where I tried to force in a laser mount.

I just like that little lee way . I know when Glock does a change like say Gen 2,2 1/2 and 3 their is some over lap in the serial numbers. It would appear as though they come across some frames and they run them until their supply of parts is exhausted.

That would make sense from a manufacturing stand point.I know historically Colt and Ruger do quite a few clean up runs and my best bet is Glock follows suit. SJ 40

Thanks for the responses. I too carry a sereial number list with me but wasnt sure of the cut-off when they started decreaseing in quality. I saw 2 Gen 2's at the gun show today that I wanted. One was a 1995 19 Gen 2 for $425.00 but he seller was a jerk and wouldnt let me remove the slide to examine it so i walked. The other was a super clean 1993 17L Gen 2. Absolutely like new with box and papers, etc. I could have got it for $510.00 OTD but wasnt sure if it was a good deal or good peroid for Glock. Didnt really need it either but, it was super clean.

Any Gen 2 is fine, the G 19 sounds like the best deal although I can't examine the gun and I would walk also. SJ 40

yea this is definitely a big factor

there could have been ****loads of people with problematic gen 3s in 2004, but you wouldn't hear about it that often because only a small percentage of people were involved with online communities.

even my friends who have gen3s today from the mid 2000s still have erratic ejection problems, but they were never concerned enough about it to make a stink.

I don't think Glock quality is worse now than it was in 2009. I do think the Glock design is worse.

The 2008 production Glock I was previously issued was flawless, as was the 2004 version I carried before that, and the 2000 production one I had before that. The 2010 production Gen 4 they issued in its place was a total piece of crap. We had so many problems with them that Glock recalled and replaced the whole batch. The 2011 Gen 4's that Glock swapped them out with are better, but still not as reliable as our Gen 3's were. The fit and finish on our Gen 4's is fine, but the design itself is an epic charlie foxtrot.
