HUGE pop up ads???? REALLY???

I haven't been on this site in awhile. I come back today, and find these Chevy pop up ads on EVERY page I go to. I litereally have to close a pop up ad EVERYTIME I go to a different topic or thread!!!!!! I understand the need for sponsors and support, but does it NEED to be so inconvenient to the forum user??? PLEASE KEEP THIS A SITE THAT IS ENJOYABLE TO BE ON, RIGHT NOW IT'S NOT!!!!!!!!

It could be for a price.....

You see it costs money to run the site. Money from paying members, and money from the fund-raisers to raise the dough it cost to keep the lights on.

As it stands now you have three options.

1. Pack up and leave.
2. Live with the minor inconvenience of ads that helps keep the forum running.
3. Become a paying member. As paid members don't see the pop up.

As a bonus option. I suppose you could run a pop-up blocker.

I've seen posts about paid membership but can't seem to find any information about how to become a paying member. I would be willing to become a paid member but just don't see any information - how, how much, benefits? Please explain or provide a link.

Sometimes where there is a membership drive there can be freebies that come with the life membership. There were free holster certificates and Spyderco knives last time.

With each tier you do get more space for private messages.
Each tier gets progressively more.

With each you get the ability to have a larger than the normal 100x100 avatar.
You get the ability to start or be invited to join in some of the private forums.
There was supposed to be an @GlockTalk.com email address at some point.
Any pop up adds will be gone from your view.

You get to support a site that actually has operational costs.

As far as I know the @glocktalk email never came to fruition

Thanks for the link. The prices seem reasonable. Still need more details on difference between life, gold, platinum, silver. Any other info here?

There never seems to be any posted. I don't really know why.
The biggest difference is the amount of private message space. Being silver I get 500 of them. The other tiers get progressively more. You name will also be in a different color.

The only thing that bothers me about the ads is the hidden area above the ads. You think you are clicking on a thread, but instead you get sent to Chevy.

That's not cool.

It's annoying but the site is free also. Make a donation or just hit close. I love this site too much to complain.

Pop up ads are one thing. But what I'm running into is "Searching has been disabled" when I click on "New Posts". It's been doing that 9 hours. About 8 hours ago I sent a message about it and got the answer back that they were working on it and it would be fully functional ASAP. That was 8 hours ago, and am still having problems. Anyone else having this issue?

I wonder how much extra Eric charges the company that runs their ad right under the small, translucent, green, hard to pinpoint 'Close' pixels.:smile:

Because in the last few days I've clicked on that ad at least half the time I was trying (again and again and again again and again and again again and again and again again and again and again...) to close the 'Super Pop-Up'

Paying my way with pop-ups is one thing. Onerous intrusions are another. Sheesh.

Tell you what... Go back to no pop-up ads and I'll buy a membership.

I agree the little "X" is hard to hit sometimes, especially on my tablet when using my fat finger. Solved that problem by paying for a membership. $40 will get you a Silver Membership, which should eliminate the ads. I like the site so much, I sprang for a Platinum Membership.

It's pretty low down to move the "CLOSE [X]" part of that pop up to the upper right of the ad and to make it damn near impossible to see.

Chevrolet is probably losing customers because of crap like that.
I know I won't buy one now.

We have had to fix the code that was displaying these ads. They should appear much less frequently now.

I know they pay the bills, but I still do my part to avoid them whenever possible.

You also get the little hand when you want to click on a valid thread. When the invisible area of the pop up covers a valid thread link, you get the pop up, not the thread.

These popup adds annoy me and I don't feel generous when I'm feel obligated to pay a fee. I always enter when you run a fund raiser.

Other forums run and make the owners a profit without annoying pop up ads. I'm sure we all know why. Bandwidth costs money and it seems the majority of the traffic here has nothing to do with Glock and everything to do with off topic junk. Because of this I have done 2 things.

1. I have NOT even looked at buying anything here. Until this forum is run by adults for adults I am paying for advertising on other Glock sites. I don't believe my target audience is here. Just a bunch of kids for the most part.
2. I have even paid for a membership on a site I won't name because even though this one has a greater wealth of information the signal to noise ration is better at many other sites.

Obviously some don't care and obviously I will still be here but just not that much as I tire of wading through the BS that is encouraged here.
