I've been lurking for some time and decided to join. I've been into guns and hunting all my life but most of my shooting has been confined to rifles, shotguns, revolvers and 1911s. About after an up-close and personal encounter with a couple of dirt bags, I decided both my wife and I would get concealed carry permits and training to go along with it, as well as safety trading for our 10-year-old daughter.
The last six months have been spent in extensive research on handguns. I've gone to every shop and range and handled everything, narrowing down choices in the process. Then I put 100 rounds or more through every prospect.
We decided on three pistols: Walther PPQ for home defense and range work, Glock 26 for CCW and as a backpacking/fly fishing gun and, a M&P 9 Shield for EDC.
I love them all and look forward to ownership and all the responsibility it entails.

That's a lot of research.
Just curious, but why the Walther for range and home defense? You could, hypothetically have a Glock 26 for CCW, and a 17 for range and home defense, and then the 26 would be able to use the 17 mags. And you'd keep platforms more similar.
Then you of course still might want a thin CCW, so the Shield makes sense for that
Of course, my own choices have me with a variety of different mismatched guns

I did all the research because I was hoping to get it right. :-)
I put a few hundred rounds through both the G17 and G19. The bottom line for me was the PPQ was kinda head & shoulders above any other gun I tried in terms of accuracy, fit, feel, fastest follow-up shots, trigger, pretty much everything. I did like the G19 very much.....the PPQ was just in a completely different class in my hand.
I love the little G26 and can see its benefits as a utilitarian piece....very versatile and accurate for both me and my wife.
The Shield is thin, easy to conceal and a joy to shoot. I really like it, too.

Forgot to mention ..... next on the list is a G21. It'll retire the PPQ to "fun gun" status and take over as the nightstand gun.
