Introduction
To all of the professionals here on CopTalk, thank you for your service. I have lurked on this site for years, and have really enjoyed learning from the opinions and experiences that the officers on this forum have shared.
I spent four years in the military after college, and I am currently a Police Recruit for a large agency in the midwest. The academy is over halfway complete at this point, and I look forward to joining the ranks of those who have come before me.
Again, thank you for your service and for the knowledge that you have shared with those of us who are just starting out.

At the other thread I noticed you said "police recruit" and I thought did he mean police recruiter?
Well, everybody has to be a new jack at some point. With your engineering background and military service, I'm sure you'll do fine.
Good luck. Stay safe.

Ajon, I don't mind being given a hard time, especially as a probie. How else is someone supposed to learn?
Patchman, I wasn't planning on posting on CT at all until I after was sworn. The last thing that I want is to be one of the guys on here that speak from their 4th point of contact. But, after weighing in on the other thread, I figured it was time to introduce myself as the FNG.

You'd be surprised. In MI, you're not sworn until you're hired and start working for your department. In IL, apparently I'm getting sworn in before the academy. Different strokes for different folks, I guess?
And welcome, 11A!

I was hired by a larger department, and I'm going through the academy. We are considered a recruit until we pass the academy and receive our commission. We are then sworn in.
In this state, anyone can pay and go through an "academy", and then try to get on with a department. Some of the larger departments will hire you and run their own academy that is state certified.

Welcome.
I wasn't sworn until I graduated the academy and received my certification.

So, until you are sworn in, you will be sworn at. Good luck with academy.

Lots of folks from the Midwest here. I spent several years in Des Moines and Kansas City.
Great bunch of folks here. Best of wishes to you.
I like my coffee black.

Seems this year is turning out to be a year where a number of CTers are going to have their cherries popped.
Good luck one and all.

Dont forget boot, I take my coffee black. In all seriousness 11A, welcome aboard. Keep your boots polished, mouth closed, eyes/ears open, and your personal life unsullied. If you can do that, you will have a long career ahead.

Welcome!
Be polite, be professional, but have a plan on how to kill everyone you meet.

I was wondering if anyone else would catch that.
31K was my series, along with 76Y Post Trained, but not cross over. Yeah, it was odd. Fun times back in the day.

Congrats! Just hope that lawman800 isn't your FTO. He won't bring you anything from inside the restaurant and will just leave you in the car to read policy. I'll never forget lawman!
