New WASR 10/63

Just purchased a WASR 10/63 with 2 single stack 10 round
mags. It has not be cut to accept high cap mags and I don't
want to have it modified. What I want is some 10 round
single stack mags for it. Anyone know where I can get some
or have some to sell me?
Thanks,
Dano

I would get the mag cut. You'll enjoy it so much more.

2 reasons really. No one around here I'd trust to cut it out
and I could pick up another already cut for what I'd pay to
ship it off and have it done.
I'll keepit like it is or trade it. I'll shoot it a few thousand
times first

"No one around here I'd trust to cut it out"..?

Widen that magwell yourself. All you need is a file, though a dremel, (or similar tool), would speed things up. Test-fit a standard steel AK mag regularly to keep from taking more off than necessary.

/problem.

Unless that Magwell is cut, that will be a hard AK to sell, IMO

I could but I have more projects going right now than I
can handle plus work. Got a buddy that tried it and he
messed his up bad.
I found about 15 single stack mags and I'm buying all of
them. May be just 10 rounders, but I've never been a
member of the spray and pray crowd anyway.
Thanks for the input though,
Dano

As of right now, I don't plan on selling it. It shoots great.
I want to change the front sight to a fiber optic (old eys).
Other than that and maybe a stock change I don't plan on
making any mods to it. It has a TAPCO trigger assembly and
it's the slickes trigger I ever felt; more like a S&W model 10
that's been worked. Barrel look like it's never been fired;
unlike a lot I've seen. No, as AK's go, I may buy another
and get one that uses hi/cap mags, but I'll be keeping this one.

Tapco makes great ten round magazines.

First ones I thought of. Sent them an email. They're
still double stack and won't fit.
Thanks,

Bought 9 single stack 10 rounders from a guy on THR
and 6 from clearviewinvestments.com so I have 17 mags
for it now. Added a fiberoptic front sight to it that is so
much easier to see than the stock sight for these tired old
eyes of mine. Shoots great. Only thing I may do to it is
add a full tactical stock like a TAPCO so I can add a light
and maybe a red dot sight.
Thanks for all the replies,
Dano

Glad you found some that work. It's cool you're keeping single stack, keeps it different. How's the fiber optic sights?

Thanks for your service.

The sight is a Hi-Viz and it's better than stock but not near
as good as I expected. I have Hi-Viz sights on a couple other
guns that are great, easy to see even in low light. This one
is not one of those. I'll keep it on but I'll also be going to a
Dot sight or scope.
Take care.

Actually i have a single stack myself and have been thinking of widening the mag well too. Lots of people do it, there's at least 5 videos on the net by people who did it successfully... but i too am scared to mangle a perfectly hood gun. (No smith around here will touch AK's.) Can you please tell me how your buddy messed his up?

He opened his up with a dremel tool and then used it
it to smooth the cuts out and got it to wide. The mags
wabble around in the well. He sold it to someone who said
they could fix it but I don't remember if he said how he
could do it.

The sight is a HiViz and I have them on other weapons but
I'm real disappointed in this one. Broke 2 getting it together
(it comes with 2 yellow and 2 orange). It's dull, not much
better than stock and it don't fit tight. You have to use
lock-tite blue or it will move and the sight won't be lined
up. My advise, go with another sight. I'm trying a red dot
on it. Haven't had a chance to sight it in yet with all the
spring yard work but it looks good I think.

I buy all of the single stack magazines I can find. They are not all interchangeable. There are Hungarian, Egyptian and Romanians ones in steel. The Serbian ones are plastic, cheap plastic. They aren't hard to find a a lot of people convert their rifle to take military magazines. Some are interchangeable and some are unique to the rifles they fit. They are usually cheap enough to buy though, so I don't worry much about getting the odd ones sometimes.

I ended up with 19 10 rounders and 2 five round mags.
A couple need work; follower sticks if you load more than
8 rounds. Just need time to do a little cleaning and maybe
some sanding. All are Romanian as is my weapon. Didn't
know they were not interchangable. Thanks for the tip.
