All,
I am loading 200 gr. XTPs, for the Spring turkey season...
No not for turkeys, but for cranky black bears. Anyway,
my SD load is a 180 gr. XTP, loaded with a Max. charge
of Blue Dot for my G20SF/factory barrel. I ran experiments
with Longshot and Blue Dot, over my chrony, and Blue Dot
won the velocity race, in the factory barrel. I also have
a 6" KKM barrel that I swap in for "woods gun" mode, and
this 180 gr. XTP load picks up ~40 fps, and could be
pushed a bit higher, given the fully supported chamber.
So, for the 200 gr. XTP loads, only to be shot out of the
KKM barrel, given I have Alliant Steel, Alliant Blue Dot, and
Hodgdon Long Shot, in the powder locker, which two would
you pick for the next velocity race? Incidentally, I loaded
a couple of starting loads for the 200 gr. XTP, at 8.6 gr,
and 8.9 gr. of Blue Dot. From the sticky thread on Alliant
powders, this seems like I have a ways to go before
reaching the potential Max. for this bullet.
