Ruger LCR

So I have been trying to get rid of a pistol I own and was offered to trade it straight up for a Ruger LCR .38 Special. Now both guns are worth about the same so I have no problem with making the trade. Just curious if anyone out there has one and Im sure a few of you do, and how you like it??

I recently bought a Talo grey/blue LCR in 38spl. Haven't gotten the chance to shoot it yet ,but hopefully will get to the range either tomorrow or Monday night.

I have been doing quite a bit of dry fire practice with snap caps and I have to say, it has the best factory DAO trigger I've ever felt on a snub nose. I know there are lighter titanium snubs but at 13.5oz and half the cost of a Ti, it certainly gets my vote.

The standard Hogue grip is quite comfortable and works perfectly in my 5.11 shirt and ankle rig which will be the 2 carry methods depending on what I'm doing. Pocket carry may be a little bulky but Ruger sells an abbreviated Hogue grip for that.

Also, don't worry about any rattle inside the gun, it's normal. Ruger revolvers use a transfer bar system and every Ruger revo I've owned has a similar rattle.

Although I dont own one, I've held many of them and just dont like the feel of a polymer revolver. To me it would be like having a polymer 1911

I have one. Use a Kangaroo holster (under the shirt shoulder holster) and it's fine.

Bit big for the pocket, but groups acceptably out to 15 yards. I'd have tested further but weather got too bad.

Triggers better than a NIB S&W J-frame.

I have the LCR 38; great pistol. It shoots soft and is easy to conceal. I oredered the smaller grips from Ruger and they make it even easier to conceal.

I own a LCR .38 and it's a very satisfactory revolver. The action is smooth. +P rounds fired in this gun generate big muzzle flash and a very loud report, due to the short barrel. The +P is also quite tiring (not painful) to fire. Standard .38 special is much easier to manage in this lightweight revolver. The LCR a very good substitute for the S&W J-frames, in my view, and maybe a bit better.

What is the recoil impulse like on the LCR357 compared to a S&W 642 shooting standard .38 loads?

I was considering purchasing the Smith 649, but may go with the LCR if it's quality and manageable recoil

I haven't shot the LCR357, mine's the .38 only model, but recoil was similar.

The factory grip does a very good job. I'd just shot 125 rounds of .45 in a IDPA match in freezing (literally) weather and running a box of .38s through mine..... yeah, you knew it went off, but it didn't bother me.

More recoil than a K-frame, but about the same as an Airweight J.

I would have traded that. I have a Taurus 24/7 OSS DS in .45, i like it ok. I have shot both the LCR, and my pokcet piece is an LCP. I really want a Bodyguard .380

I was very close to buying the LCR. However I picked up a Smith 442 and love it.

I might want to pick up and LCR down the road.

LCR has a great trigger. (!)

Grips are very good, but recoil is less than I'd expect for the weight, especially in the .357, even with the CT grips (which are smaller than the stock grips and don't have the recoil absorbing insert). Guess the frame flexes and takes up some recoil, too.

The extra 4 oz up front in the .357 makes a noticeable difference over the .38 version when the same .38 round is shot in both guns. I feel like recoil is a little less than a comparable-weight j-frame at 13 oz. (for the .38), but some folks don't. Haven't shot a .357 against a similar weight j; but again we are talking about 17 oz. versus 13 in comparing the two Rugers.

A lot of folks have found that the cylinder release can be harder and grittier on the .357 version (wife had trouble with it, and she didn't on the .38), but it smooths out with use.

(Edit: Oops, guess you weren't asking about the .357. Anyway, the .38 is a very good gun.)

I own the LCR in .38 special. Fantastic gun!

I've also shot the LCR in .357 and the recoil was not as bad as I was expecting. I will probably buy another someday.

Great gun. I leave it with the wife and I carry a SW 638'

I want to pick up a LCR in the .22, would be great for training.

Had one a while back...got rid of it. It is a painful shooter and I could not knock beer bottles down from 10 feet away...

It has a smooth and really nice feeling trigger, but there is no noticeable break so you cannot stage it. If I go the 38 spl revolver route again it will have a shrouded hammer.

That said, if someone wants to trade you a Taurus for one, absolutely go for it...

It's a .38 snub.... you don't stage the trigger, you snap straight through. It's a defensive piece, not a target gun.

I've never been attacked by a beer bottle, but I could get a palm-sized group rapid fire at 15 yards without an issue on a silhouette.

I've had my .38 LCR for a few years now. Shoots nice and recoil is controllable. I have no problem hitting a 12" steel plate at 25 yards with it. Probably further than a self-defense scenario would call for. I carry mine in a Desanti Nemesis pocket holster with a Bianchi speed strip.

Awesome trigger. Most accurate snub nose I've ever shot. Less recoil than one would expect from such a light gun. Easy to carry. I highly recommend it.

I've only had mine for a couple weeks. It's the .38 version. This thing is not fun to shoot. It beats the heck out of my hand. I feel like a wuss listening to these guys say how soft it shoots, and I'm a big guy. But, admittidly I have little experience with revolvers and this is my only experience with a snubby. I've put a 410 rounds through it, mostly cheap range ammo with a little +p mixed in for good measure. At first I couldn't hit anything with it. After some research and practice, I find it to be quite accurate. 21 ft is 10 ring and 25 yards will stay on a paper plate. All in all, I like this little guy a lot. It is more than capable for its intended purpose.

Mine is the one with the hogue boot grip and tritium front sight.
