An SBR is more than worth it. I have a lot of time on 8", 9", 12", and 14" rifles and shotguns. There is a huge improvement in handling in confined areas compared to a 16" rifle or 18" shotgun. Besides, an extra $200 is nothing compared to the cost of the rifle, mags, optics, sling, and everything else. Once you're into it $2000+, the $200 to get the barrel length you want is insignificant.

I'D DO IT IN A HEARTBEAT!

I like the compactness of the shorter barrels, they look more like their military counterparts, and they are more maneuverable in the competition shooting that I do. Also, since I rarely shoot at a range greater than 50-75 yards, there's not much benefit from a longer barrel.

Here's a photo of my SBR's.
Nice collection.

Thanks, it's a work in progress, and an expensive one at that too. I'm looking to start a few more SBR builds here soon, but I'm trying to move away from the AR platform. I'm thinking something like a vz. 61 Skorpion or an AKS-74U copy.

while a 9mm Skorpion would be good, I'd imagine it would be hard to find parts and magazines for. If I was going to go to something exotic like that. I would SBR a Sites Spectre. That would be sweet with the 50 round magazine.
