You know what else I'm noticing with these responses?
See how many members carry the compact Glocks rather than the sub-compacts? Look at how many carry the G23 over the G27.

Because the subs suck. I think most people who "like" them don't ever shoot them.

It might not be unfair to suspect that a great many owners of all type, manner and size handguns might not regularly shoot them.
Granted, all things considered, the larger the handgun the easier most folks feel it to be when it comes to handling, manipulating and especially shooting them. Not surprising.
For example, it's not uncommon to read quite a number of occasional postings in this forum where owners of subcompacts state they feel they need to use magazine floorplate extensions in order to be able to have a support for the little fingers.
While I like to use the curved extensions (which don't add capacity) on a few of my G26/27 magazines so they're easier to firmly seat in the shortened grip of the guns when carried as spare magazines, I usually use magazines with standard flat floorplates as the primary mags carried in the guns.
Personally, I wouldn't go so far as to say that "subs suck" in broad general terms. Different strokes, and all that ...
Having invested many thousands of rounds shooting them, myself, I've even discovered that they make shooting my larger handguns seem even easier.
I also suspect that a number of folks may gravitate to smaller pistol (and revolver) platforms which may be harder for them to shoot, and then give insufficient attention to the mastering using the smaller guns.
I certainly found myself investing extra range time with increasingly smaller guns when I started to carry compact and subcompact pistols some years ago ... and renewed my interest in carrying and using J-frames.

G27--For carry. 165 grain PDX1
G22--HD. First 10 are 135 gr HST then last 6 are 180 gr PDX1.
Did a lot of reading and research as well as shooting with my wife. She did the best with the 135's. The 180's are for just in case.

G23 Gen 4
40 S&W
Federal HST
180 gr
Until something else comes out, I selected the Federal HSTs for 9, 40 and 45 based on some law enforcement ballistic workshop results which are compiled in the following series of PDFs:

G32
.357 sig
Corbon
Personal Defense JHP
125 gr
The fact that fragments like the old 125gr .357 magnum loads. Which is what the .357 sig was designed to replicate. That, and the fact that it squirts out of a 4 inch barrel at 1400 fps and change.

Glock G30SF (CCW and home defense)
.45 ACP (10+1)
Speer
Gold Dot JHP
230gr
Speer Gold Dot JHP is extensively tested by Law Enforcement for penetration, expansion and retained weight and has a good reputation among LEO. Test data is readily available to the general public on the Internet. It's available at affordable prices from online ammo suppliers. Speer makes a companion Lawman 230gr FMJ round for range practice that closely matches the recoil and accuracy of the Gold Dot JHP.
Other SD ammo I'm evaluating for future use:
SwampFox Nickel +P Brass Premium Max Velocity 230gr Hornady XTP JHP, 1050 fps, 565 ft-lbs. energy (very impressive energy for .45 ACP load with proven Hornady XTP bullet)
Federal HST 230gr +P LE JHP, 960 fps, 470 ft-lbs. energy (same justification as with Speer GDHP)

As a Newbie, I'm not sure how to decide between 124 and 147gr. Why do you carry the 147g?

In the wheel guns I like the Winchester Silver Tips and in the Glocks I like the Speer Gold Dots. But there are others out there that are great.

Mod. 21 with Remington Golden Sabers. (230 gr.) I like the low-flash powder.

Be aware that there's a difference between 124gr and 124gr +P. The +P is more powerful. As long as you buy quality defensive cartridges like many of those mentioned in this thread, you can't go wrong with either 124gr +P or 147gr, don't over think it. Some folks, especially older ones, just prefer the heavier, slower moving bullets over the lighter and faster ones, same reason why so many people still prefer the .45 ACP.

Well during the colder months I carry Winchester Supreme Elite Bonded PDX1 .40 S&W 165 Gr. and during the warmer months I carry Winchester Ranger .40 S&W 135 Gr.

Glock 17 9mm.
124gr. +P Speer Gold Dot.
I like the fact that it's a bonded bullet. All tests seem to indicate that it performs well in tests with most all media. I think the only thing I can think to say about the round that would detract from it is that the French use it.
