been thinking about switching to either wst or wsf from unique. i mostly shoot 9mm but would like a good powder for 45acp and 12ga if possible. which would you guys go with? leaning towards wsf.

If you shoot hotter loads, then you should go with WSF. WST is superior IMO for light to medium loads. I use WST in 38spl, 9mm, and 45acp. Exceptional powder.

Light loads: WST or N320
Heavy loads: WSF or HS6

Oh, with 12ga involved, WSF hands down.

Am I allowed to post a photo out of a manual with WST data on it? It seems like it's hard to find. I just don't need any more "INFRACTIONS" on my record.

If you don't want to post it, PM it to me, I'd be interested in it.

147gr 4.0gr loaded to 1.125 FMJ or 1.100 JHP

WSF pressure doesn't gain much with OAL change. Winchester data uses the 1.1690" close-to-SAAMI-max OAL for nearly all their data. Most loaders I know run JHP to 1.10, FMJ to 1.12-1.14 and save the major loads for 1.15+. SAAMI says we have between 1.00 and 1.70 for an OAL to work with in the 9mm Luger. Generally a little shorter than the halfway point is the sweet spot for most 9mm guns. Depending on your mag length and chamber throat, you can load longer to get in the lands.
Thanks Freakshow. Appreciate that info. Winchester seems to be the only powder manufacturer (at least that I use) that doesn't publish minimum OAL, and I don't have the guts to trust my observations of what is too much pressure.

This data is old. I confirmed a lot of the WST data with a chrono, but I have never loaded as hot as this data says you can. I have personally never loaded over 5.2gr and that was with 115gr bullet. IMO you'd have to be insane to put 5.6gr in a 9mm

So take it with a grain of salt.

It's one of those cheap little blue ones that take all the data from different manuals and publish them in one book. At least that's what I think. It appears to be very old. The whole book has nothing but 9mm loads in it.

LoadbookUSA is what it's called. One caliber, one manual.

Basically a guy got permission from the manufacturers to photocopy their manuals and redistribute their info. Wonderful idea and I hope he made a killing off it.

Depends on bullets, but honestly, I have never found a bullet I am comfortable running that long. The longish 124grRGS gets load to 1.145" max, about as long as I load anything in a 9mm.

I wasn't happy about how Unique metered in my 550B either until i tried this product. You got to have patience to install it but it was well worth it.

That 5.0 WST listed matched up perfectly to what came out of my chrono.

I can't figure out how WSF,loaded at the same charge weight can be the same velocity as WST as some have listed.

This data is from the 4th edition Hornady manual.

Same here. I chrono'd 5.0gr at 1060fps.

There is no WST data for 147gr bullets in this manual.

I was just thinking it would be nice to see their recommended powders/charges for the 147gr heavyweight.

3.2 - 3.8grns. WST w/147grn. bullet lead or plated, OAL 1.150", good for 940fps from a 4-5" barrel (3.8grns.).

I've shot thousands of 3.8grns. for practice, steel, USPSA, etc. Accurate, clean burning, low recoiling it's a great GP 9mm round.

What I don't get about that posted manual for 124gr WST data (or for any of the powders) is that they've posted data for 124gr FMJ/JHP/LRN. LRN typically takes a reduced charge range to get similar velocities to jacketed. How can they say with all those powders, a given charge rate of the appropriate powder will yield 1100 fps regardless of bullet type?

BTW, I've emailed Hodgdon several times, and their stance is there is no safe data for WST in 9mm.
