Obama wants Marines to wear Girly Hats?

The Okie Corral

Or "covers" in USMC lingo.
An $8 million dollar waste?
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Obama Wants Marines To Wear Girly Hats

Quote:
Thanks to a plan by President Obama to create a “unisex” look for the Corps, officials are on the verge of swapping out the Marines’ iconic caps with a new hat that some have derided as so “girly” that they would make the French blush.

Last year the women switched.

The Okie Corral

The Okie Corral

No word on unisex underwear, yet.

Women always look better under my covers.

Well, most of them, anyhow.

The ones on the right look French. The others just look stupid. At least he's not making them wear berets.

Berets

And just what is wrong with a beret! I earned the Maroon (airborne) beret, Black (then ranger) beret, and the coveted Green (Special Forces) beret.

In fact, the Green Beret is a presidential award presented to Special Forces by President John Kennedy, an honor that many try to earn but only a few actually earn.

A little bit of beret trivia, the Green Beret is entombed with fallen special operators because it is an award. No other soldiers a buried with a headgear.

Nothing against these fine units, but aside from their association with the Special Forces, the beret is a useless French appendage. It odes not protect the head, shield the eyes or serve as a weapon.

Ahhhh...I forgot about the use of the cover as a weapon.

I can certainly understand and respect it for special units, to distinguish them (like Airborne wearing jump boots, if they still do) but I have been told that, aside from that, the beret serves about the same purpose on the head as a wool sock, and is probably even less comfortable.

The small hats look silly. I am sure there is tradition that prevents them from tossing them. After all tradition is more important than efficiency.

Dress uniforms aren't made to be efficient, they are made for looks and tradition. If you want functionality then that is what cammo is for.

Efficiency in purchasing.

Why make the men go to a small hat? There are far more men than women in the Marines. If anything the women should change.

Do you actually have any experience with Federal Acquisition Regulations? Efficiency isn't exactly a priority with the Fed Govt.

I said they should do it. I never said they would.

While the USMC might be considering this (personally I question the credibility of the reporting), I find it incredibly difficult to believe ANY President gets involved in uniform decisions.

I think the women look sharp in those small covers. The men should continue to wear the traditional caps however. YMMV. tom.

So... Obama is not involved with the specific uniform decisions at all. Got it.
