10mm hornady critical duty 175gr?

I've seen the critical defense 165gr but this just popped up on cabelas, is it real or a typo? The critical duty is a lot better than the critical defense line IMO.

The website has them for 40S&W, but nothing for 10mm. Maybe they are the real deal and their own website hasn't actually put it up there yet.

Hornady customer service confirmed this is 10mm 175gr critical duty made on contract only available through cabelas.

I wish hornady would update their literature to show this load. Fps and gel #'s would be nice.

If you want to standby for a little while, Intercooler just ordered some and when he gets them will put them on a chrono. You can see his posts over on 10mmfirearms.com.

Interesting...I'll pick up some on my next trip down there. If it performs well, I'll rotate some with the Silver Tips I've got for SD/carry ammo.

I can only hope these will be the 1200fps factory load we all want with perfect .65" expansion and 16-17" of penetration. My guess? 1130fps, .62 expansion, 15.5" in 4 layer denim.

The old Hornady 180's were 1155 FPS. If they kept the same load maybe 1175? I didn't realize we don't have a 180 XTP gel test yet.

Plenty of neat ones there to see when he gets his Witness fixed.

I did a 180 gr XTP test but it was a hand load. I hope eaa doesn't take a year and a half to fix the Witness.

You can't argue with that result. What was the penetration?

If they keep them close to their 180gr XTP, velocity should be between 1150-1200 fps. I got some for the .40 and they don't expand so great, it's a long bullet but penetration is good. This bullet needs more speed.

boooo. cabelas told me mv was 1150fps, 50yds 1052fps, 100yds 981fps...so that is prob in a 5" barrel that means a G20 will be going 1130 hopefully. kinda weak, imo.

Still stronger than .40. If it looks good I'm okay with it.

I firmly believe that full 10mm power is counterproductive for personal defense against humans. It's not going fast enough for TSC to be a significant wounding mechanism and the slower, moderate 10mm velocities are plenty to get good expansion and penetration. The extra velocity of 10mm over .40 S&W does help with a flatter trajectory, which could help in the extremely unlikely situation where you need to use a handgun to defend yourself or others at 100 yards or so.

That's why my personal defense load is a 165 gr Gold Dot at 1,300 fps. That's fast enough to be really flat but the recoil isn't unmanageable and it's nowhere near nookular. I might even back it off to 1,250 or so.

The 165 gr Critical Defense load performed very well with big expansion and adequate penetration, even at a moderate velocity.
