Senate passes Internet sales tax bill.

The more I think about it, the more sense it makes to me.

I own a small online business... It is not good news, nor does it make any sense to me.

Relax. It's for retailers with sales over $1,000,000.

Are you one of them?

Not yet, but that's the goal, and it's not far off... Besides, how long until they cut that million in half?

On a side note... I'm as relaxed as they come.

Not long at all.

Exactly how most taxes start. Small. Only the rich. Yada yada yada.

Just another money grab. Pure tax increase.

There is no increase in taxes, only a change in how they are collected.

RELAX dewd... I mean after all, what could go wrong with a governmental bureaucracy going after businesses for sales taxes "ONLY" on sales that are 1,000,000 dollars or over???

The ignorance of those supporting this is laughably incredible.

No, this is not a good law. Not good at all. Fortunately it looks unlikely to pass the house.

It doesnt take much to have sales over 1,000,000.

If you can eek out 5% net margins (margins can get thin online) that means you made 50 grand.

In a lot of cases, for 50 grand a year, it might be a lot easier to have been a nurse or fireman.

I'm guessing Internet retail net margins are much higher than 5%. The ones I know are doing about 20%-35%.

So, WalMart supported this. Why do you think? Hmm.

A million is nothing, sales-wise.

Anyone who thinks that the DemoRats are involved in this due to leveling the playing field, or some other "feel good", BS is an idiot. It's clearly a ploy to bring more gold to Rome's coffers and nothing more.

Read my lips:

Some will split their operation into several smaller companies to get under this amount.

Great idea, punish people who might just hire someone.

When was the last time Congress has done something we approve of?

Tax increases of all kinds, inflation inducing runaway spending, mandatory health insurance, gun bans and for the cherry on top of this steaming pile, amnesty for the illegal immigrants.
