We know, and he knew, it's a photo op for him to be seated with the first lady, and he chose not to be a part of the propaganda. How is that his loss?

He did not lose anything. If none of those folks Obama invited had shown up, or called in sick at the very last minute, it would have been a major embarrassment for Obama.
