I attended a presentation by a State Trooper several years ago featuring slides of before/after shots of multiple meth users. The shocking physical deterioration takes place in a matter of a few months --- if the methhead lives that long.

Some of the before pics of the women are reasonable attractive.
After the meth... not so much, to say the least.
I've seen people on the street that look similar to the after pic in the OP. I always have my hand on CCW. just sayin'.

But what would they look like (the younger ones) after they got cleaned up, ate right, and got off meth?
The guys I worked with who did meth didn't look that bad, in fact, they looked normal. But they would dry out from time to time.
The right to self destruct should be as fundamental as the right to keep and bear arms. The fact that most of us choose not to, make us different. It's the ability to fail, that makes success sweeter.
We are lucky that we have a government and it's agents, who know what is best for us, and will regulate and restrict things like meth, seat belt use, how big a soft drink can be, how much salt and sugar can be in our food, and the lethality of our firearms. And that it's agents are so eager to enforce those rules, they won't even take the time to make sure they are attacking the right place.
And we are just now beginning understand just how much our government cares for us, with all the regulations from the Feral bureaucracies.
Oh yeah. Government is great. Government is good. Let us thank it for our food.

Very good point. When it comes down to it, the only issue I have with drug use is when they rob another's castle to pay for it. HH

Yet there are people who use it recreationally and even medically and never become freakish like that. Puzzling.

Yep, most substance users never become addicts, but don't let logic get in the way of a good TMZ thread.

Medically, "amphetimene salts" are used for ADD treatment, and a few other things I probably don't know much about.
I guess it's all about dosage and doctor instructions. 25 milligrams or so in a time release pill is quite different than injecting a massive dose of this stuff into your arm on a regular basis.
I took a law enforcement class in college, and did a term paper on meth and how it affects law enforcement agencies. Part of writing that paper was research on the effects of meth.
Meth can suppress the appetite, and users can be strung out for long enough periods of time, at a time, that it is fair to say it's not uncommon for users to eat less. That can explain the "starving" appearance of some heavy users.
Meth users can experience delusions and sensations of bugs crawling under their skin, (among other wierd things) that can cause them to feel a compulsive need to scratch and pick at themselves.
When you see someone with sores like that all over themselves? That's a sure sign. That's nasty, as these people often end up scarring themselves to the point where even if they do get clean they will never quite "look right".
Meth users tend to engage in risky behavior and or not take care of themselves. hence the bad teeth and hygiene.
I'm not claiming to be an expert or anything, I'm just trying to recall some of the things I remember from writing that paper.
I could be devils advocate and say if a meth user actually bothered to maintain themselves, (brush teeth etc.) eat properly, and not scratch and pick at themselves constanty, maybe they wouldn't look like COMPLETE hell.

That doesn't serve to funnel funds towards cops.

it would surprise me, if anyone were to be surprised by those photos.
smoking or snorting something that is 100% synthetic...what do you expect?
Although, I don't agree with making it illegal. Grown ups can make their own informed decisions as to what they will or will not put into their bodies.

How about organic meth? Is that any better?

I don't think being synthetic is the problem, it's the grade. Pharm. grade meth is/was used by the USAF to keep pilots awake, IIRC. HH

Welcome to my world - I'm an addictions therapist. I have seen guys use Rx speed look pretty rugged in a few weeks. Your body doesn't know if its from a pharmaceutical factory or a clandestine lab. Of course the meth from labs has a lot of residual crap in it and varying one of the 40 some recipes/processes by a different brand of raw material, a few degrees of heat or the time creates new weirdo chems. A lot of the physical damage is from the weirdo chemicals used to make meth clandestinely. This time of year its easy to spot a tweaker. They're outside in the cold with flip flops, shorts, and tank tops because they are overheated from the meth. Their hallucinations and delusions can be a hoot. My favorite to date was a guy who said with all sincerity, "I am Adoph Hitler's daughter." Industry loves the stuff though - productivity is up in the factories. If you've never seen someone on meth visit a supermarket that's open all night about 2 am and check out the guys restocking the shelves....they're very fast for a reason...

Had a date or two with crystal myself, and even went into work on it. It's seriously horrifying to feel the effects of it on your body when you're coming down if you're not a regular user. I don't regret experiencing it, but I'm grateful to God that it was just a one time binge and I didn't go back to it. Meth really is a hell of a drug.

I've seen these threads before but I forgot, why should we legalize this stuff, and therefore make it cheaper and easier to get?

Because as an adult, you own the rights to your body. Therefore, you may CHOOSE what or what not to put into it.
Quit babysitting grown adults...thats not the governments job, nor is it anyone elses.
