Vienna Sausages are just as disgusting as I remembered

It's been umpteen years since I ate some Armour's Vienna sausages. I don't know why but when a colleague offered me a can, I went for it.

Gagh!!! Just as bad as I remembered. The worst part is I actually ate them all.

The best thing is to buy the off brand viennas and read the ingredient list while you eat them. Who knew that pig snouts and chicken lips could taste so good!?

(But just between me and you: If you like trout lines or dead-stick (e.g., "bush hook") catfishing, just take ya a couple three of them little sausages and put 'em into a bowl. Then take some corn flakes and mash the sausages and corn flakes together. Add enough corn flakes till you have a ball-conformable mixture that is tight enough to stay on a hook.

I now use salmon egg hooks I buy from online as making a ball the size of the entire hook is perfect for when I fish this bait. Putting bells on the limbs or cane poles will probably keep ya busy all night if there are a lot of fish around.

Back in the day, I would form a ball of this same mixture and place it on the point and barb area of a larger sized hook. I tried to get 'em all set before sundown, and then go check 'em in the morning.

Louisiana Hot Sauce would have prevented this.

Edible by humans if the goo is rinsed off and then the weenie dipped in mustard.

Pork 'n Beans is a good side, along with saltine crackers.

Made many a lunch off these in my poverty days.

Down here they're called 'armadillo snouts' in polite company.

Great bug-out / hunting food. Depending on the brand, the salt content of the goo alone keeps them from freezing until the low teens. HH

When we were young, we were told they were "monkey peters". Sure kept us from eating them.

I like sardines in mustard sauce or louisianna hot sauce. Even better are the fish steaks in louisianna hot sauce.

ETA: The wife prefers I eat the sardines when shes not home, she can't stand the smell of them.

Here in KY they are considered a traditional native food. It is pronounced Vi-Ay-Nee and you don't say "sausage" - it's just a "can of vi-ay-nees."

I went to a meeting in the supreme court conference room at the state capitol during a court recess a few months ago. The supreme court justice who was chairman of the committee had his lunch of viennas and saltines during the meeting.

I'm not a big fan of those or beanee weenee, but my father usually brings both on hunting trips, so I eat them sometimes.
