Glock NEWB here. Can the G26 handle 9mm +P ammo? If not, what is the most powerful recommended 9mm round for the 26?

i shoot +p through my G26 no problems.i was told that continous use of that ammo could be a problem and not with the G26 with any gun.

I'm thinking of keeping a magazine or two loaded with +P for self defense/carry and then use a less powerfull round at the range.

The 26 will handle max loads no problem.

Take a look at Federal HST 124gr +P.

It'll handle all the +P you can afford with no worries.

Glocks can handle powerful ammo, but the most powerful is not necessarily the best. It's up to the individual to test various rounds to guarantee complete gun/ammo reliability then select the one that provides the best accuracy consistent with penetration, expansion, and shooting characteristics requirements.

I've got a number of premium JHP self-defense rounds and I do have favorites, but when the weather gets warmer I'm going to make it a point to test them all for accuracy from a rest instead of a standing position. I'm sure all the rounds I own are capable of completing the task but I want to settle on one or two going forward.

Even a constant diet of thousands of rounds a year of 9mm+P ammo in a Glock or Beretta 92 should be fine!!!

You MIGHT run into slight problems with a constant diet of 9mm+P+, but only after a couple thousand rounds or so!!
By slight problem I mean jamming and accuracy problems.

Based on my experience with the department I retired from and using Beretta's, S&W and Glock 9mms' in good working order and recent manufacture!
The main issue is to make sure the selected rounds feed OK and you shoot them accurately.

Glock designed the G26 to handle all commercially-available 9mmP ammunition.

I have a g26. I got it before the manufactures jumped on the defensive ammo band wagon. At the time, I tested several rounds for it. I selected the magtech 115 gr JHP. Not the new defensives rounds but the old 9C. Out of the G26 it Chrono'ed just under 1100 fps. Bullet expanded well (has six petals). I bought a case.

Using a small short barreled pistols there are trade offs. I opted for speed and accuracy giving up some velocity. I bought the grip extention for all the magazines. 3 shots, 3 seconds, 3 yards.

My main 26 currently has Winchester Ranger 115 grain +P+ in it. I have also loaded it with 127 grain +P+ and 124 grain +P loads. It eats them all just fine. I have a stash of Federal 147 grain HST2 that I put in my 3" 9mms - MK9 and Nano - that would probably work fine in the 26s too.

Glocks are tough handguns.
