I've been wanting to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall from NC end to Boone for several years and have not been able to get enough time off during that season. One of my driving buddies did the BRP from 441 to Boone in about 8 hours . They stopped off at several spots. He brought me a book on the BRP which has all the info you could every need for that area.
My cousin has a vacation cabin and a rental condo in Maggie Valley ( just outside of Asheville) and its kinda in the middle of everything. We usually do a nite at the cabin every couple of months just to get away, but haven't since my injury. You can Google Cabin rentals in the Asheville / Maggie Valley and see a map of the area and what the cabins look like.
During that time of the year its a crap shoot with the weather, snow is unlikely but not out the question. .
