The Mayans obviously could foresee the future. Just look how well they foresaw the threats to their own society!

It's why they went into hiding in Atlantis. Along with Elvis.

Actually, there are dates in Maya texts that go past 4000. These have been known for a long time. The only people who believe this are the lunatic nut jobs.

I knew a guy who bought all kinds of crap to prepare for Y2K. After it came and went he left a bunch of rice and beans on the doorstep of a local church in the middle of the night.

People who prepare for the end of the Mayan calendar are only slightly more stupid than those are unprepared for anything.

I wonder. If the world were going to come to a catastrophic/almost instant end, I would think the only place that could come from is outer space. Since there doesn't seem to be any Armageddon type comets hurtling towards earth right now, Dec. 21 doesn't seem too likely.

I don't put any stock in the Mayan prophecy of doom but it is fun to think about.

Oh yeah, if Aliens helped the Mayans, Egyptians etc. build their temples and pyramids, why did they build them out of rocks instead of metal and not give them electricity and stuff? I don't expect aliens arrived in spaceships made of rocks, mud and lit by candles.

I love the whole "pyramids are signs of advanced technology" shtick. Ask any mechanical or civil engineer, a pyramid is the only large scale construction that doesn't require any engineering knowledge to create. Dump sand into a pile and what do you end up with? A pyramid.

That is the reason the pyramids have lasted as long as they have, they are already at the angle of repose for the material they are made from, they really can't fall down.

The math and techniques to build the pyramids are very simple. The genius was in organizing and feeding the labor. Some smart people but no alien tech needed.

If the Mayans didn't factor in Leap Years, what does that do to the prediction? Either way, I am throwing a bbq bash called The Armageddon, Aporkalypse Now...on the 21st. Might as well ring in the end of the world with some pulled pork, a bonfire and some beers.

Good idea. Just saw it is on a Friday. I might do the same. It would totally suck to have to be at work when the world ends.
