between a SHORT BARREL 124 grain +P gold dot and a regular 124 grain +P gold dot for a standard length barrel?


its a silly question but ive heard so many conflicting answers



BUT THEY ARE BOTH 124 GRAIN +P GOLD DOTS so how could there be a difference?

Good question.

According to Speer - the "short barrel" ammo has powder blended for a different pressure curve, intended for subcompact guns, and the projectile has been tweaked to expand the same as the regular Gold Dot at lower velocity.

You are suppose to obtain the same results whether you are using your G26 or your G17.

I have never done my own tests to confirm this but that's as much as I know. Perhaps someone else can fill in the blanks here.

One big difference is the Short Barrel stuff costs more than twice as much. At least I've never seen the SB stuff in 50 round boxes.

That's right. There are special 9mm loads intended for short-barreled pistols. The ammo manufacturers are starting to pay attention to reality.

Winchester started the ball rolling with the T-Series ammo in 1998. Federal attempted in 2001 with a spin off of the Star Fire load renamed Hi Shock Two. Performance was lack luster so it was recalled.

In 2004 the HST was reintroduced but did not gain popularity until the ammo shortage of 2009 when the better known rounds were not to be found.

Finally Speer noticed a loss in market share and came out with the SB loads.

Last year I spoke to one of the techs at Winchester about the PDX1 in a short barrel. He stated that the feedback they were getting was much the same as rounds in standard length barrels.

Seriously though, I would recommend finding the 50 round boxes of regular Gold Dots. Ammoman.com always has good prices on them. I bought 500 rounds, shot about 100, and carry them with CONFIDENCE. This is one of the best performing loads out there.
