I Met A Very Interesting Person Today.
I live along one of the roads into Yellowstone N'tl Park and took a ride today to grab a beer at one of the entrance lodges. The park traffic is much thinner now and individual vehicles stand out so I noticed a conversion van (captain's chairs / raised roof) filled with a family helping an eldery gentleman to an overlook in his wheelchair. I pulled over because I really needed to use the facilities and parked next to the van and during the course of friendly discussion found out that the gentleman in the wheelchair was my high school Spanish teacher from Long Island from '77. Great guy: WWII vet, cold war translator and my most influential teacher/mentor at that time...and he still remembered me!

Back in school he told us (only when asked), that he was taught Spanish and sent to deal with USAAF guys who were shot down, crashed or landed over the Pyrenees (sp?). Oddly, he never talked about the next twenty years. HH
