Neighbor hoses you down...what would you have done?

So my brother has a dog that barks his head off. The neighbor was outside and started barking back at the dog, out of frustration, apparently. The neighbor then starts cussing at the dog and spraying it with a garden hose. My brother walks out and asks the guy to stop cursing, as there are kids close by. The neighbor then proceeds to spray him with the hose lol. He simply walked away, letting cooler heads prevail.

I don't know what I would've done, but it would be really tough to just walk away. This is the kind of thing that will escalate to a bad situation quickly. I think I would have called the cops, even though it was harmless water, to document it. It would definitely be a tough pill to swallow, letting the neighbor get away with that. I understand a barking dog can be very annoying, but spraying someone with water can bring unecessary consequences.

Would you have just walked away, called the cops, or just beat his arse? My brother doesn't carry a gun, so that's not an issue with this situation. I understand if he had a CHL, then leaving the situation is the only way to go.

Don't get too carried away, or you'll get the brunt of his noise complaint against the dog.

I would of got my 300gallon a minute pump and shot water back at him... But this would have never happened because I keep my dog under control.

There you go,you have to consider other people . You don't have to agree but,we all have a right.
I had such a neighbor with such a dog, noisy little thing. He would start yapping and I would walk up to the fence and face to face
with this dog. This dog would go crazy.Five minutes go by and the guy comes out to see what's going on?
I said nothing ,just looking and wandering why the dog is going crazy? this happened three times and the guy without a word got tired of getting up and seeing me taunt his dog into such a frenzy by doing nothing. He put his dog in his house and that was the end of it .

When my barkamatic starts her barking she comes in. She has learned that barking ends privileges. I just do not permit her barking for too long or she comes in.

Wait for him to fall asleep then go slash 3 of his tires.

(ETA: No, not serious.)

I'm not even going to ask why 3, and why not 2 or 4.

If he doesn't burn his neighbor's house down, he is a failure as a man.

In terms of size, how does your bro and the neighbor match up? Is there an age disparity? If the neighbor is half his size and/or twice his age, there is no honor in getting physical.

Tell your bro to get the dog a no-bark collar and use it before dog goes outside. I train my dogs early on this because a lot of people especially next door neighbors can get easily annoyed.

Your bro needs to have a talk with the neighbor and tell him that he is working on the barking and talk to each other if it is still a problem. He also needs to tell the neighbor that his aggressive actions will never be tolerated again. Don't engage in an argument leave it as a no misunderstanding with the neighbor.

I have seen these things escalate and it can get ugly. Dogs poisoned etc. All bad.

What I thought!

Hell I'd be a bigger ass and have him arrested for assault. Push it hard enough and they have to take him for the ride and you get the satisfaction that you one upped he and he no mess with you no more.

Dogs bark. If you got a problem with it call the authorities.........and the vicious cycle goes on.

I would certainly never advise that kind of reaction, but keep in mind:

-Unrelenting noise can drive people insane.
-The guy was observed to be barking like a dog and yelling inappropriate obscenities.

Sounds like the guy is overflowing with crazy at the moment, I would get the dog to be quiet and not try to avoid provoking crazy. You never know what crazy is going to do.

I would say that shutting the dog up will probably solve your brother's problems with his neighbour.

Well, if you slash all 4, you can claim it on your insurance as vandalism. If you slash 3, it's considered something like a road hazard.

Not that they couldn't slash the other one and make it vandalism, but most people don't know that.

, being a good neighbor means keeping your dog inline, if he started it by taunting the dog move your dog and keep an eye on the neighbor.

Get video camera rolling - walk into the street in front of neighbor's house - when neighbor comes out to ask WTF are you doing - get 911 on the phone to get it on tape - YELL at the neighbor - saying things like

I am afraid for my life --

Stand back I have a gun --

I am just standing my ground --

I have the right to stand my ground --

I’m armed and my life is in danger --

I will use my firearm to defend myself --

Oh wait - that doesn't work so well after all - never mind..

You might be referring to the same case.

Yep... I saw a case where that is exactly what happened. They had the audio of the 911 call and clips of the video he took. He hit all the buzz phrases to cover his butt.

Yep, that guy is gonna be doing life in prison.

I'm just thinking of how quickly the childishness can escalate here making the living situation for both families intolerable or dangerous.

The only appropriate response I can think of would be for the both of them to head out in the yard in speedos and let some gay hose fight settle it. Play "Wake me up before you go-go" on the hi fi for extra points.

Noise is noise to me. Cussing is just as annoying as a barking dog.

Your Brother should keep his dog quite and he won't get the hose again.

No doubt. IMO, People who let their dogs bark to the point that they bother the neighbors deserve to be hosed down; with Napalm. Your brother didnt' get near what he deserved.

Bingo.

I had a neighbor whose dog barked constantly, and lunged at the fence anytime I was in my own backyard. I asked the neighbor to do something about the dog, like put it in the house - at least after 9.00p. The neighbor's reply - "dogs are supposed to bark - he lets me know if some body is in the yard". I explained that if it barks nearly constantly - you don't know if someone is in your yard or not. He mumbled something and said "I still ain't gonna do nuthin bout my dog".

Several calls to the police when the dog was barking after 10.00p finally resulted in some quiet some of the time.

I moved - now my neighbor has roosters.
