I am really torn between which one to get. As background, I don't plan to hunt or shoot beyond 100 yards, and the only two additions I'll probably make are adding my suppressor and a decent scope.

So, does anyone have both and can offer an opinion on which is the better rifle? Price isn't a huge deal, but I can get the SIG for about $170 less than the S&W.

I have both... better? In terms of construction, the Sig. Less synthetics in the upper.

In terms of easy upgrades, the S&W... drop-in compatibility with most AR triggers, grips and stocks.

Both are threaded from the factory, and if I had to choose only one for 100 yard shooting, it would be the Sig 522.

I had both and don't have the 522 anymore since fell apart in the first 500 rds, Sig did fix it for me but lost confidence since then I pick up a S&W M&P 15-22 and have several thousand rounds down range with only one malfunction.

What exactly fell apart? Bolt problem? I haven't heard too many owners (myself included) who have any issues with the 522.

I prefer the S&W M&P 15-22, the 522 is not worth the extra $150 in my area.

I'd do the Sig 522 SWAT - that's what I ended up getting and have been very pleased. It shoots any .22 ammo - never had a FTF, FTE, etc. Great .22 IMHO.

Do you have either rifle in the 5.56 version? For me, I would go with the S&W between those two if I were limiting myself to one of them, just because it is a great trainer for the AR. Has the same manual of arms as the larger caliber rifles.

If I had the Sig 5.56, then I would go with the Sig 522 for same reasoning.

I have a S&W M&P 15-22. My friend has a Sig 522. They're both great rifles. I give the 522 an edge on inherent accuracy. You can't go wrong with either. If you want an AR style .22lr and accuracy is the utmost criteria, then the S&W M&P 15-22 Performance Center model is the one you want. It's chamber has tighter tolerances.

Now if you just want a good .22lr rifle that has outstanding out of the box accuracy, you can't beat a Marlin 795 with the micro-groove barrel.

I have the 522, my friend has the S&W. Again, both fine rifles.
My 522 is my favorite firearm to shoot, hands down. It's accurate and cheap to feed!

OP: I have a mint 522 OD that i modified and contemplating on selling it to fund for a carry gun.

I bought the gun brand new about 4-5 months ago. I hardly used it anymore.

I bought it for $400 and its OD color, but I added a Quad Rail that cost $150 and some Reddot sight and Magpul 2nd Gen backup sights front and back. Total mods is $200+

Love the 1522

Early adopter and no hiccups.

Although I liked the heft and more metal of the 522, chose the Smith due to being a better crossover trainer for a standard AR, and that it came with 'iron' sights, and parts (trigger) compatibility.

I shoot tactical 22 matches at a local club in a large metro, and 80% are running 1522s

I looked at the 522 before buying the 1522. The 522 I looked at I was'nt impressed,the stock wobbled when locked in place and at the time the prices were very close. I choose the 1522 because of the feel and cross training compatibility for the AR. From everything I've read the 1522 barrells are made by Thompson Center and have heard of extrodinary accuracy from these rifles. I do like the look of the 522 though and the ability to accept mags for the 22 conversion AR's. Either one would make a great plinker and loads of cheap fun, but to each his own on these particular rifles. But me and the kids love the 1522 and since buying it a year and a half ago we've put several thousand rounds through ours. My son wants one of his own for his birthday this year

I setup my 1522 with a primary arms red dot so it is similar to my 6920/micro t-1 for cheap practice. I have a few thousand rounds and never had an issue,

HK416d145rs. yea, Its Umarex, but its a bad ass looking and accurate rifle. Wont eat subsonic ammo tho, and its hard to clean. The functional dustcover is a plus. Pic soon to come
