Wolf FMJ $0.235 a round - Would you do it?
We haven't had an ammo price thread in a while( at least I haven't found one). If you want to share any deals that would rock.
Right now I'm looking at Wolf "performance ammunition" 123grn FMJ. $209 plus shipping (25 for me) for 1k rounds.
I'm tired of shooting corrosive. (even though 17 cents a round was nice! lately i';m not finding it under .20 if memory serves)
I might buy some silver bear to stash, but I want some ammo to train with.
Never shot this stuff before.. reliable? at least semi accurate?

That ammo's ok, but I'd probably buy Golden Tiger 124gr FMJ or Wolf "Military Classic" 124gr JHP instead. Here, check out this site: http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=7.62x39

I don't even look online anymore for deals. I just head over to Walmart and pick up some Tula for $5 a box. Maybe not the best, but it works good for the range and is cheap. Not saying Walmart is the answer, but for me it's right down the road and we are talking Russian ammo. Lol

I might buy 7.62X39 for $5.00 from Walmart if I was only getting a box or two at time, but that adds up to over $50 more per case than I've recently paid for 124gr. WPA.

Barnaul, (makers of the "Bear" ammunition), does produce good ammo. I've got ~500 BB rnds in 7.62x51, (for my Saiga .308; fantastic rifle), andl 1k Silver Bear x39 FMJ, but overall, GT, (7.62x39), is what I buy in the highest quantity. It's lacquered, (great for storage), non-corrosive ammo, yet, it's still hotter than dirty-assed Yugo surplus, (which is quite corrosive).
ymmv.

I agree. Brown Bear is my second choice. Wolf is too underpowered for me.

IMHO...What's the difference.
The AVERAGE A.K. with the best ammo is basically a 4" rifle.
The AVERAGE A.K. With the cheapest ammo is basically a 6" rifle.
The net result is the AVERAGE A.K. is a 150 yard rifle.
Might as well save the money.

My ak likes 123g wolf. It shoots as well as any other ammo through it. YMMV.

I refuse to use wolf ammo. Any wolf ammo in any caliber. Been burned by them & avoid it. I get great groups from golden tiger at 100 yards.

If you read the stats and checkout chonographs, it is pretty inaccurate and very underpowered. I would plink with it but no way I would buy it in bulk as my "go to" ammo. Too many better choices out there such as anything Barnaul (Brown, Silver, or Golden Bear). Golden Tiger is probably the most accurate, designed for long-term storage, averages over 2,300fps, and it is close in price to all the other big names.
I avoid Wolf and Tula personally. I am not saying they are garbage, I just feel like Brown Bear and GT are better all around.

Thanks for all the input fellas.
I ended up canceling my order on the wolf, and getting 1k rounds of Golden Tiger from wideners for just one cent more per round! ($0.245 per round including shipping).

I am sure all your research told you it was superior to the underpowered Wolf. Wideners is good to go.

A little show to ship...card charged, but no ammo yet.
Been 8 days, called today, they say maybe it will get shipped by the end of the week..
