Can someone please help me out with some good load data for a 165 grain Gold Dot.

I currently have some Blue Dot, and some IMR 800-X. I plan to pick up some # 9, or Longshot soon as well. If there is another powder that shines with this bullet I would really appreciate the info.

I haven't really been able to find much info for this particular weight.

I am using a Glock 20 SF with a 5.15" Lone Wolf barrel.

For work we carry 230 grain Gold Dot. Off duty I carry 185 grain. Hope this helps some

CAUTION!!!!
This load was worked up in my G20SF/stock gun and works well for me. I would start at 9.0gr and work up from there.

I can only help with IMR 800-X powder.
165gr GD

Powder IMR 800-X 9.5gr

My Lyman Reloading Handbook, #49 lists loads for a 165 grain TMJ for the following powders: Titegroup, Win 231, Zip, Universal, Unique, N340, WSF, Power Pistol, True Blue, 800X, HS-6, AA#7, Blue Dot, AA#9

For 800X, the lightest load listed is 8.3 grains @ 1133 fps (21,600 c.u.p.)
the maximum 800X load listed is 9.3 grains @ 1266 fps (28,900 c.u.p.)

For Blue Dot, the lightest load listed is 9.1 grains @ 1087 fps (20,900 c.u.p.)
the maximum Blue Dot load listed is 10.2 grains @ 1230 fps (27,400 c.u.p.)

I'd highly recommend sticking to published load data.

All of the load data below uses CCI 300 primers and a COAL of 1.260". Anything different will change the data.

With the 165gr Gold Dot, I would use 800-X. It will make an AWESOME carry load. I have gone as high as 11.4gr 800-X with my G29's stock barrel with no pressure signs. At 11.2gr 800-X, I got an average velocity of 1367fps. At that velocity, they are starting to over expand. At 1325-1350fps, the bullet will look like this:



With your Lone Wolf barrel, I'm sure you could get it up to about 1450fps or more using 11.2gr 800-X, but I would try to keep the velocity to under 1400fps. At that velocity, it should hold together, and expand perfectly. I'm thinking something around 10.5gr or so would be best with that barrel. I think 11.2gr would be a safe maximum.

By the way, 800-X seems to have a sweet spot when used with 165gr bullets. I've gotten more power out of the 165gr/800-X combination than with anything else. Also, don't forget I used a short G29 barrel. Work up to these levels in your longer barrel.

10.0 gr power pistol is max load listed on alliant website. I use it behind 165 gr Golden Sabers my Chrono results are 1395 ft/sec 1.255 AOL and CCI 350 LPM. Alliant data is with 165 Gold Dots 1314 ft/sec. I have shot hundreds of my loads in G20sf and G29sf . I would recomend starting with 9.4 gr and work up. I dont trust 800x because of spikes and can be inconsistant. Longshot is another possibility but did not get the results that power pistol gave me with this bullet weight.

If you are picking up A9, a bit less than max charge of 15.2 gr (CCI 350 primer) runs 1335 fps in my 4.6 barrel. That is a really nice handling load with sufficient pop. It is a good speed for this bullet too. Plenty of expansion and weight retention. It is my current carry load. A max charge of 15.5 gr has zero issues with pressure, but I settled on 15.2 because it handles better overall.

NOT for G20 stock barrel, these loads below are safe only in my IGB full supported barrel 4.6", when it's freshly cleaned. I shoot 6 or 8 these then switch to lighter training loads 180gr/1250fps.
When barrel is dirty I never switch back to full power loads until I clean it.

165gr Speer Gold Dots w. 3N38 and CCI 350 LP Magnum primers:

Yes, they are factory loads. All the loads on that paper are factory, except the two loads that state the powder used.

That AA#9 is nice but I bet the Blue Dot could be taken further than shown to equal the AA#9 results safely! Probably 12.0 - 12.2 gr with incremental testing!

I think Power Pistol would also benifit with a little work and testing.

I have worked up to the 15.5 gr max charge of A9 and it runs great. Case expansion and other indicators show it to be good to go. Seemingly plenty of margin for error for pressures. I like 15.2 grains. It handles really well and, in my opinion, a good speed for that bullet. I shot an IDPA match with the 15.2 gr load. It ran really good with nice control.

I did not chrony the 15.5 gr loads, but 15.2 goes 1335. No doubt that 15.5 would do a bit better than the 1344 published by Speer. Longshot would no doubt work good too, but load data is pretty scarce.

I would bet that Blue Dot would work great too with nice groups.
