I've got a 642 (no crimson trace) as my only lock gun too. I just picked up this no-dash 686 made in '84 that I absolutely love. I've refinished the original wood grips, but like the Hogue's for shooting as well.
This is my target from 10 yards. The hole at the bottom is the first 6 shots fired in single action with 130gr 38 specials. The other 3 are from my dad trying out the gun. These older Smiths are very accurate.
