If anyone is interested in what the grip safety does on the XD, here's a little video showing a cutaway close-up. IMO, blocking a sear on something with a light trigger pull is a pretty good thing. Since it has a striker block, pinning down the XD grip safety would be like removing the thumb safety on an 80 series 1911 which I never see anyone do.
