1) A Medal of Honor winner is basically untouchable for life. The chain of command can make him do things within the normal day to day military stuff but can only suggest beyond that.
2) A photo op or a political type rally such as this cannot be made mandatory. It can be highly suggested and recommended but not mandated. What are they going to do, give him a bad eval? I don't think so.
3) Says he got out after receiving the award. The first handful of words in the article are, "Former Army Staff Sergeant Clint Romesha..." He has no chain of command.
