The first computer we had resided in an old filing cabinet filled with wired cards. The keyboard was pieced together from miscellaneous buttons from adding machines and cash registers and was housed in a nicely stained wooden box just like the monitor that use to be an old b&w TV.
The 8086 my Dad bought had an amber monitor as well. I remember always wanting a green one. At the time I think the whole PC cost about $2200.
