So... You put yourself in a situation where you depend on a service hich you have no control over.
Either give yahoo what they ask for in order to keep giving you free email, or switch to another provider. I still don't see the problem.
FWIW, I don't think Yahoo will sell your number to anyone. They aren't worth much.
