A colleague quipped that we already have in our midst the short-sighted, arrogant and unintelligent Secretary of Justice described in the opinion. There are different views on that, but the point remains that Section 19 is a potential tool for the State to stop communications critical to the government or any of its officials, using the pretext that the comments are prima facie libelous.
As it stands, Section 19 potentially serves as a chokepoint against free speech.
