It came to me that way from the S&W factory. I had a hand in modifying NYPD handguns back in the late 80s (switched to stainless steel and all J-frames had to have full size sights on them - they all come that way now, used to have 1/10" wide sights that sucked).
Anyway, S&W was happy with me (and a few other guys from the Firearms and Tactics Section) and they sent us our revolvers as I described mine to you.
For the record, the gun has sat for the last 25 years in its mahogany case, never even opened the cylinder!
