Another Rimfire Score (Pictures added)

A week or so ago I told how I had put a Ruger Mark II on layaway, then took it off again, put a Single-Six on layaway, then picked up the Single-Six and put the Mark II back on layaway.

Well yesterday I picked up the Mark II. It's a 50th anniversary model, in the red box, with all the papers, lock, etc., at least the best I can tell.

Also as best I can determine, it is absolutly unfired. I can't find a bit of carbon on the gun anywhere. There is still brown packing greese in it, and both magazines still have orange stickers on them.

There is still 6-8" of snow on the deck, so I haven't been able to get to my tree to take a picture but most folks know what a Ruger MK II looks like. It's got a 4" barrel, fixed sights, magazine release on the butt of the heel.

While I was filling out the paperwork, I as a joke asked the young lady behind the counter "You don't have any 22 ammo do you?" She said "We do for people buying a gun. You want a box? We got one left." Sure I said, figuring it would be a 50 round box. Turned out to be a 500 pack of Remington Thunderbolts. Not my favorite ammo by any means, but hey, it's the first 500 round box I've seen in a couple of years.

I think I'll put it on display and tell people "Back in the day...."

Congrats, CB!

I picked up an old 1967 Ruger Standard last year, also unfired in box. I love these pistols. :)

I do too. I'm a relover guy at heart, but I've always had a soft spot for the Ruger 22 Automatics, no matter what vintage.

This one has the straight frame like the old Ruger Standards. It doesn't have the scallops at the rear of the frame like the regular MK II's and III's have. I guess a concession to making them like they used to. It does have the bolt release like the Mk II's, so I guess it's really a hybrid.

First handgun I ever owned was a Standard Model 4". I was maybe 15, 16? Dad came up and sat on the edge of the bed and explained that they couldn't have it in time for Christmas due to the budget but they wanted to get me a .22 handgun for Christmas. The Ruger was my choice and of course it was under the tree Christmas morning.

Bought it at the hardware store up town. Used to love that place. Oiled wood floors, two aisles wide, maybe three or four long guns and a shelf of ammo but the guy who owned and ran it always had time to talk guns with me and my friends after school. Like most gun guys where I grew up he was a trap fiend. Never had the coordination for that.

Great guns and a nice find.

A very nice addition. My opinion the better choice of the two.

Maybe, but I'm a revolver guy at heart.

I went out this morning and snapped a couple of pictures of it. I couldn't get to my usual tree on the rail, so I had to settle for down by the hog pen.

It's still pretty cold, so I didn't hang around there long.

You always have the best gun pics.

It's snowy on my end of the country too, you finding rimfire ammo OK?

I lucked out finding Velocitors the other day...but that was it. Expensive stuff for pop cans.

I really haven't looked too hard for it Berto. I've got several thousand rounds I had bought years ago, and I don't really shoot a lot these days, especially when the weather is cold. I got a box when I got the gun, and I found about 600 rounds in a range bag I'd forgotten about.

Very nice.

I like the Mark II pistol the best and have four of them. All Ruger 22 pistols are sound designed guns and will last a lifetime.

A co-worker gave me about 100rds the other day because he sold his rifle.
