So how many new Dollar General stores you got now?

I live in a town just under 10,000 people and we got one on the south side, west side, north side and they're currently building one 5 miles farther north of the one that's already north of town.. I counted 8 total in my county.

I know it's a quicker drive to get something than fighting the customers at Wal-Mart but wtf?

I have no idea how many are around me, but they seem to be a very well run company. I have been buying their stock for a couple years now.

However, I did see the EEOC filed a major lawsuit against them a couple days ago, that is new good.

The workers at WalMart have to have affordable places to shop:rofl:

Detectorist 06-16-2013 00:39

2 new ones. the closest one has a real cute 18yo blond with charm to spare.

Dollar general have raised their prices on many things to far exceed that at WalMart.

My sister, a realtor, told me there are three things that kill the value of a neighborhood...a vehicle title loan shop, a pawnshop, and a Dollar Store. If there are two of the three nearby she won't even take the listing.

BEER 06-16-2013 00:59

you're surrounded by either white trash or urban youts.

the only thing you're missing is a dollar cinema and a tobacco barn.

Your sister was wrong. The three things that kill a neighborhood is a liberal city mission, next to a package liquor aka convince store, next to a smoke aka head shop.

Yep, in AZ, a dollar store is a sure sign the area is distressed and one moving in is a sign things are grim in that area...:crying:

What are you complaining about?!? China needs the money!

Detectorist 06-16-2013 01:33

It raised property values around here. Nothing else for 10 miles any direction.

Restless28 06-16-2013 04:54

They are like fire ant hills now.

So are title pawns and payday loans. Those are an indicator of an area's economy.

RyanNREMTP 06-16-2013 05:15

My town only has two gas stations, a Dairy Queen, a Dollar General and a bank. Everything else is Mom and Pop owned. Especially the meth labs.

blackjack 06-16-2013 05:37

I passed through a small town west of Tulsa yesterday where the Dollar General store was next door to the Family Dollar store. That was surprising but I guess it works on some level or they wouldn't have done it.

pac201 06-16-2013 05:51

we have a dollar general, freds and family dollar all within a block of each other...

Gonzoso 06-16-2013 06:10

I dislike those stores. The people in them typically disgust me and I avoid them like the plague. They usually make the people of wal mart look classy.

So many fat, slovenly mouth breathers shop there buying crappy stuff.

Five below is terrible too. I went into one a few months ago for the first time, We'll probably hear about a new health problem from people who worked there as a result of breathing in all those plastic fumes, that store stunk!

M2 Carbine 06-16-2013 07:30

Two stores that I know of and a couple more with slightlydifferent names.

I stop in about once a month.
Gonzoso has probably seen me there. I'm the disgusting one paying with hundred dollar bills.

That would probably be my two mulit millionare friends that shop there also. They also shop at Wal Mart.

Thing is with those stores you have to watch what you buy. I've found can food out of date and a lot of times the same thing is cheaper at Wal Mart.

.

deputy tom 06-16-2013 07:37

Five Dollar General stores and three Dollar Tree stores, two Big Lots and one 5 and Below within five miles of our house. Many are near high end neighborhoods and a couple in rougher neighborhoods. tom. :dunno:

Bruce M 06-16-2013 07:39

I would have said that section 8/subsidized housing would be much higher on a list of property value/neighborhood killers than a Dollar General.

Calico Jack 06-16-2013 07:46

Hahaha... I love this place.

They grow via net net leases. If you can get in on building their stores in an area jump on it. 10 yr cash flow iirc.

Very bad for all of us, not just the victim (Dollar General).

They are being accused of discrimination because they run criminal background checks. Criminal background checks turn up criminal records. Criminal records are not evenly distributed by race, therefore, using criminal background checks as a hiring screen can be prosecuted as evidence of discrimination.

Why sue Dollar General then? I know Walmart uses the same practices and have far deeper pockets.
