New G19 owner

After acquiring my CCW and finding my G22 hard to conceal (I'm 5'11" ~160lbs) I started looking at some other more concealable options that would still be fun to shoot at the range. While I like my G22, I found that the compact Glocks (G19/G23) seemed to be the perfect size.

Last week I put $20 down on either a G19 or G23 (whichever comes in first) at my LGS, yesterday they called, and as of last night I now am a proud owner of a brand new Gen III G19 along with an extra 15rd magazine.

This is my first gun I've purchased brand new and I'm looking forward to putting some rounds through it, but first I need to sell my G22, extra mags, and ammo.

Are there any recommended break-in procedures for new Glocks? Also, since this is my first 9mm, does anyone have any recommendations on defense ammo?

Congratulations. I got my new 19 several weeks ago and I couldn't be happier with it. Just like my wife's 26, it has performed perfectly since day one.
I took the gun shops advice and just went out and used both guns and we've had no issues. No special ammo, no break-in process, just bought ammo that was available, shot, and always cleaned them after a day at the range. Just like our Toyotas, just use them and take decent care of them and they will perform well. That has been our experience with the 2 year old 26 and it looks like the 6 week old 19 is following the same path.

Good luck and enjoy it.

I love my 19!!
I got it new as a blue label and it is a gen 4.
No issues and it shoots whatever I put in it. All I did to make it feel a little better was adding some grip tape to the grip.
Shoot it, shoot it often, and have fun.

I just took a look at mine and used a bit of oil in the right places and went from there.

After much research, I settled on Speer Gold Dot 124 +P

I bought my gen 4 19 just days before Sandy Hook happened. I've only had a chance to take it to the range 3 times so far because of ammo (now I've got some extra to use so I'll be able to go more often). I love it as well, it is so much fun to shoot. I blow through my self-imposed limit of 150 rounds in no time. Its my perfect concealed carry weapon that is good for the range as well. I really really love shooting it.

Carrying Federal 124gr HSTs in it they seem to operate well through the gun, videos I found online indicate they will put holes in bad guys.

To say that I love my G19 would be an understatement - I carried one overseas and we trained on them extensively.... to put it simply, I know it works, can be depended on, will run reliably WITHOUT fail and trust my life to it. It's big enough for "duty use", carried it in a tan blackhawk serpa or a safariland (forgot model number) if I wanted a light on it; yet also small enough for concealed/discreet carry. I've owned a number of glocks (bought/traded), and currently run a G19 and G26 (summer gun) - you WILL NOT be disappointed.... "you're gonna like the way you shoot, I guarantee it" LOL

My prefered carry loads are Winchester Ranger/PDX1 in 124+P or Gold Dots also in 124+P, I like bonded rounds. The Federal BPLE round, old one in 115 +P+ is cool too.... The weapon though is as accurate as you are, and I can shoot it and group with it as well as my Kimber(s), they're just awesome, not really much else you can say...

Congrats on the 19!!! Great weapon...... Sold mine for a Gen 4 26 but still have love for the 19!! Enjoy!!

G 19 is a great gun. I'm always surprised how close to the accuracy and speed of my G34 I can get with a 19.

There are lots of good 9mm defense loads but I'm liking the 147 HST the best right now.

Ranger45 03-27-2013 18:15

Congrats on the G19! It's an outstanding carry gun!

Scott30 03-27-2013 18:25

My Gen 3 G19 has performed flawlessly for over 3000 rounds. Eats any ammo I can find for it including reloads. My Gen 4 G26 is on it's way to doing the same thing. That will be your next purchase.

Congrats on the G19....Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +P is a great choice. I used Hornady Critical Duty 135gr +p....nice hot round with a little more mass behind it.

Sgt.K 03-27-2013 19:18

Close to 1000 rounds on my Gen 4 G19 and I couldn't be happier with it. Thought the G26 was all that until I got the 19. It has performed flawlessly no matter what. My last 3 USPSA classifiers bumped me to "C" in Limited and yes that was with the minor power factor. I'm going to start shooting Production and hope to reach "B" if not come in there. It's my EDC with Speer 124 +p Gold Dots, practice with NATO and shoot matches with the (used to be) inexpensive stuff.

Enjoy your new G19!

Great pistol and size.

Congrats!

Cool!! I dig my Gen 3 too!!
Got the Tritium green sites on it and a Crimson Trace laser site too, and an Ammo bucket of ammo for it!!

BlkBullitt 04-03-2013 19:42

Well I was lucky enough to find a few boxes of 9mm this past weekend and got to take the 19 out for the first time. Put 100 rounds of FMJ though it and 15 rounds of Hornady XTP JHPs. No issues at all and aside from not being able to find ammo easily right now this gun is wonderful.

The only changes I've considered doing is swapping to the smooth G17 trigger and possibly changing over to the OEM Glock minus connector (not sure on that one yet).

Tx-SIG229 04-03-2013 19:44

two of my favorites, the gen3 19 and 23
