Youth 20ga question

Been here since 1999 and this is my first post in here :)

Who makes a youth or bantam 20ga shotgun with a decent action. I have looked at a few mossy 510's and the action was just horrible, I dont think youngen could rack it.

If there are no such monsters available, who would you suggest I send a 510 to have the action worked.

My wife shoots a Remington 870 youth for upland shooting. Pretty nice. I am surprised at your experience with the Mossberg however.

It may be the (1) particular gun. I have a 500 12a and the action is fine. I actually suspected something might be wrong with the 510 I handled at Academy Sports, it was horrid and no way a youngster could rack it without lots of effort.

my daughter shoots a 870 youth model 20 g. Nice gun and dubs as an awesome home defense shotgun!!

If you want it box stcok then you want the Remington Express Compact Jr. If you want to upscale it you can buy one directly from Aippi and he'll take care of you.

My work here is done.

They use the 510 bantams at our scout camp. 11 year old boys can cycle the action with no problems.

posted from my stupid smart phone, please excuse any spelling mistakes.

I gave my daughter an 870 Youth model for Christmas two years ago. She's 9 and killed her first dove and duck with it this year. I only let her use it as a single shot for now. The action is way too stiff for her to cycle. Also, the magazine follower sticks out too far into the loading port--it won't even let the gate clear as it sits.

It really needs some action work (it cycles but the initial unlock is hard) and the follower should be replaced. But its a pretty decent single shot.

I bought my 9 year old grandson an 870 youth Jr. last summer. It's exclusive to Gander Mountain with a 12" LOP stock and 18" barrel. It fits him well and he can handle it. I'm only letting him use it as a single shot for now so he learns the discipline of making good shots on game but it functions just fine.

Another benefit is that the gun can grow with him. As he gets taller the youth stock (13" LOP) can be added as well as longer barrels.

Started my son out with an old Ithaca mod.37.
It is a bottom eject and he is a lefty. Also one of the smoothest actions I have ever felt.

They now make a womens model with shorter dimensions and will custom make the stock.

The 870 youth in 20ga will also smooth up after a little polishing and use.

My son used a Mossberg 500 Bantam in 20g. Is that too big for your kiddo? Never handled a 510.
