Ethernet hub
I have two external drives which in the past were network (4 computers) accessible via the router where I was living. I am now living elsewhere, and the router remained there, so I need to replace it. All I really need is a small ethernet hub that I can connect to my primary PC then "plug/play" the other 2 (one is no longer with me) 'puters into it as necessary. Any suggestions?

Yes. Get a switch, not a hub.

Do you recommend a particular make/model?

5 ports

8 ports

they just run, plug it in and go.

if you need or are thinking of GigE, they make those too, about $50/each

I like netgears myself. Dont buy the white ones, spend the little bit extra and get the business class blue kind. Make sure its gigabit. Its worth it. Depending on where your current wireless router is, you could spend 100 or so and get a decent Wireless n router with gigabit ethernet ports and maybe a usb port. You could plug a external hdd into the usb and access it as a network drive.

Not really. At the level of the market you're buying, they're all going to be the same. For my part, I like Netgear stuff and dislike D-Link stuff...but its mostly all the same crap in a different wrapper. Just make sure its capable of Gigabit speeds.
