Guess what came in a cardboard box?
I've been waiting for this mamajama going on two months and it came in a freakin' cardboard box!!!

Yes, you read the caliber correctly - .45 Auto.
This is a special SAA version that Talo Inc. had commissioned Colt to do a 200-units run with. Naturally, I had to buy me a new watch to accompany a new gun. Why? Probably because chicks dig it. The Colt Royal Blued finish is simply a sight to behold. I wish that I have a better camera and skills to capture this lustrious finish. The gun feels svelte yet solid in the hand unlike the clunker Ruger Blackhawks and Vaqueros. I'm fond of my Rugers but there is something that is magical about the SAA in the way it balances in your hand and points so well. I told my gun shop to be on the look out for a nickel plated SAA in .357 Magnum now (so that I can shoot .38 Special through it). Can't wait to shoot this mamajama!!! http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...tTaloSAA11.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...tTaloSAA19.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...tTaloSAA20.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...tTaloSAA17.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...anetOcean4.jpg |
Very nice.
I did not know they were making all-blue guns without the blotchy mess of case colors that so many people rave over. I don't know about the fish scale grips, though. The plain old hard rubber/black plastic fits my hand best. |
Very nice....... I had to a double take..... Never saw one in .45 auto.
|
Case coloring back in the old days was a side effect of the primitive heat treatment technique.
Nowadays case coloring is usually done by bluing in a way that gives it the "blotchy mess" look. I'm not a fan of case coloring myself. The "dragon scale" grip panels are silly but it's a Talo thing. Talo always got some ugly ass grips to go with their guns for some ungodly reasons. |
I'm curious, how does .45ACP function in a gate loader? All the .45ACP revolvers I can think of use moon clips.
|
Sweet revolver. I've been lusting after the Ruger Birdshead Vaq. in .45acp... Can't afford a SAA. What is the trigger like?
Those grips are actually pretty sedate/classy for Talo. Reminds me of eagle feather engraving... but I think I'd have to put them away for posterity. That particular gun cries out for ivories, stag, horn or something IMO. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever gotten a new Colt in anything but a cardboard box...? |
Wow - Gorgeous blue. Very nice.

Very nice, fnfalman, that's beautiful
Congrats! |
Yeah, my friend got in a Talo PPK with some funky grips. The laser-cut look just wasn't a match for the old-fashioned scrollwork & acorn pattern.
|
I see on Colts website they still make saa....but i never see new ones for sale anyplace...whats that about...whats tht gun costing?
|
MSRP is $1349 on a plain blued .45lc. or .357.... $1551 for nickel. :wow:

Since that this gun is a special edition, it costs more than that. I think that Lipsey's MSRP it for $1697. I got it for $1650. |
Makes me wanna be a cowboy :)

That is a beautiful gun! Congratulations.
I kept looking at the first pic and thinking what does that say, it doesn't look like 'long colt' to me. Congrats! Nice watch too. |
That is a really nice revolver, I just got a 4 3/4 case color/blue in 45 Colt, it was $1225.00. The bluing on mine does not appear to be quite as nice as deep royal blue on the old Pythons. I was waiting probably 6 months for one to become available and the place only got one in stock.

Damn beautiful.

fnfalman, "I've been waiting for this mamajama going on two months and it came in a freakin' cardboard box!!!"
When I read the header I thought you got a Les Baer! I was shocked! I didn't know if you were trying other brand of 1911's or were continuing the Les Baer comes in a cheap box....... Nice gun Friend. A 45 ACP that is not a Colt 1911. I know it is still a Colt but I am proud of you Scooter, your exploring new guns. |
Stunning, simply stunning. :cowboy:
|
Cool,.........needs some ivory though!

With the exception of the SW M325 and its infernal safety lock, I've bought all representatives of SW .45ACP revolvers. With the Colt I only had the M1917 and now the SAA in .45ACP. With Ruger, I have the Blackhawk Convertible in .45LC/.45ACP (and the other convertible too .357/9mm). |
