Gen3 RSA vs Gen4 RSA

I think most people will agree that the gen4 guns have less felt recoil than the gen3 guns. I'm trying to figure out what it is about the duel RSA that makes this happen. I've been told that in a single spring set up, a lighter spring yields less recoil but more frame battering. My gen4 21 seems to have a my stiffer spring than my gen3 21 but at the same time seems like it does have less recoil. Does the gen4 RSA start stiff then get light? How does it get the lighter recoil while at the same time feeling stiffer?

Fairy dust is sprinkled on the Gen4 RSA. :whistling:

I conjecture that having a different grip texture or grip shape makes you no longer a blinded observer, so you are no longer objective in determining recoil sensation. Shooting "Recoil" is as much a psychological as well as physical perception anyways. For example: If you wore no hearing protection, the same gun, and ammo would give you more perceived "recoil".

To the extent that I am aware (worthless of course), there are no tests of the actual spring tensions comparing Gen4 and Gen3 RSA's. You need an instrument to test this. Most of us assume they are different since they look different. Actual pressure per unit length may not be different at all, or insignificant for most humans to perceive. Who is to say the Gen4 RSA is not actually lighter?

Take the upper off the Gen3 gun, and Gen4 gun, both with the same sights.

Have an assistant take one of the uppers and install on the Gen4 lower, load one round then hand it to you without telling you which it is. Have them record the sequence in which they hand it to you.

Fire it without looking at it (blindfolded is best), hand it back to the assistant, then write down which upper you think you used. Shoot a Sig or XD in between each test to clear your senses. Do this 50 times with one type of ammo.

Look at the accuracy of your determination of recoil.

Look at the accuracy of your determination of recoil. You have to be better than 60% correct to really be convinced.
